This mum's plan for the summer is so refreshing (and pretty epic)

Oh Summer Holidays, how we both welcome and dread you!

By the end of the school year we all need a break – kids and mums – but it can be a long few weeks trying to keep everyone out of mischief.

In fact, most of us mums will schedule in as many activities for the kids to do as possible, leaving little time for relaxation – the one thing most of us need.

Kristen Hewitt was one such mum, who had planned to spend the time off doing chores, reaching reading goals and practise writing with planned activities for each day.

However, on the first day of vacation things didn't quite go to plan – and it has literally changed Kristen's goal for the summer.

"Today was the first day of summer vacation and our scheduled beach day," she wrote on Facebook.

"But here's what we did instead.

"Lounged in our PJ's until 11am, baked the girls' pick – chocolate chip cookie brownies, started an art project we never finished, then moved to the pool."

Going on she admits that (like most of us) everyone is tired: "tired of chores, tired of schedules and places to be, tired of pressure, and tired of unrealistic expectations".

So she ditched her scheduled summer plan and has instead decided to embrace something totally different.

"Instead of a schedule we're doing nothing this summer. Literally NOTHING," she continues.

"No camps. No classes and no curriculums.

"Instead, we're going to see where each day takes us. I've dubbed this the "Summer of Me", so workouts and clean eating are a priority for me.

"And also giving our girls the freedom to pick what THEY want to do."

We actually love this idea; as parents, there is nothing that we hate more than seeing our kids sitting around doing nothing.

But just like us they need that time to do nothing; to recharge their batteries and just relax.
