Shock as controversial Katie Hopkins backs down following tearful mum's appeal

khDespite numerous appeals to revise her opinion on a number of topics, controversial columnist Katie Hopkins has remained steadfast on a variety of parenting issues.

However, it seems that all came to an end today when the mum-of-three admitted one mother’s response to her recent comments had had an impact.

Speaking on her LBC Radio show today, the former Celebrity Big Brother contestant echoed recent sentiments in which she expressed disdain for the parents of autistic children, saying: “Why does everything have to have a medical diagnosis for everything? Is it that our children are getting naughtier, or are we not parenting properly?”

Continuing to spark outrage, the 40-year-old broadcaster expanded on her theory of certain conditions, saying: “I don’t think kids are born naughty, I think some kids are born with bad parents.”

However, it seems the outspoken mum experienced a change of heart after speaking with a distraught caller who phoned the station to share her experience of ADHD,

Telling Katie she drastically needed to revise her stance on the parents of children suffering from ADHD, the caller said: “I’ve got three children, one with ADHD, does that make me a bad parent? All her behaviour, even though she’s not a bad person or a naughty person, is down to ADHD. To judge and say that they are naughty children is just unfair.”

Giving an insight into her family life, the caller went on to say: “Some days are very, very challenging, but they are just normal children and want to be part of normal life, and to say that is just unfair. You don’t seem to understand what it’s like to have someone with ADHD in the house.”

In a stunning turnaround, Katie praised the caller for her honesty and admitted she may indeed be speaking out of turn, saying: “It takes a lot of courage to come on here and tell me I’m wrong. It’s easy for me to point the finger.”

Acknowledging the caller’s point of view, Katie admitted the conversation had ‘softened’ her opinion and even suggested that she may have certain issues herself, saying: “I probably am on the spectrum. I did an interview with a journalist the other day, and said ‘Look, I’m definitely on the spectrum.'”
Whether or not this is the case, it is refreshing to see Katie acknowledge the opinions of the wider public and admit she may have spoken out of turn.
