Revealed: A day in the life of Sweden’s stay-at-home dads

Given half a chance, we would totally hop on a plane and relocate to Sweden. Not only is it one of the most beautiful countries in the world, but it also has one of the best parental leave systems around.

Swedish parents are currently offered a grand total of 480 days at home with their children, receiving a State allowance during that time.

Each parent gets at least 90 days each, and there are special incentives for those parents who share a more equal role during that period of leave.

Despite the incredibly amenable conditions, only 14 percent of Swedish fathers take full advantage of the equality measure – and photographer John Bavman wants to know why.

In a new photo exhibition, Bavman has captured a day in the life of Sweden’s stay-at-home dads – and it looks exactly like our own experience.

From doing chores to donning pirate hats during play time, to bonding with babies during skin-to-skin and painting their nails; these photos offer real and raw insights into your typical day with the kids.

Of course, there are some very interesting additions to the collection, mainly in the form of the exercise portraits. Would you hit the treadmill while your baby kicks back by the weights?

Let us know what you think of the ‘Swedish Dads’ exhibition.
