Presenter admits she believed her inability to conceive was 'karma'

melThe radio presenter at the centre of a prank call scandal in 2012 has revealed that she believed her inability to conceive was a form of karma for her actions which ultimately led to the death of nurse Jacinta Saldahna.

Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine, Australian radio DJ Mel Greig opened up about the hoax call and admitted to guest presenter, Fiona Phillips, that she felt her endometriosis diagnosis was a form of karma.

Mel, who took part in a radio prank in December 2012 in which she phoned King Edward VII Hospital and pretended to be the Queen in order to speak to Kate Middleton, has expressed deep regret for her actions which have been attributed to the suicide of the nurse who took the phone call.

Commenting on the tragic event, she admits she hopes to be able to move on, saying: “It doesn’t need to define me and I won’t let it define me.”

However the broadcaster admits that she felt her participation had further personal implications, revealing: “I won’t be able to have children naturally which at one point I thought was my karma from the prank call.”

Acknowledging that she initially struggled with the diagnosis and possible karmic link, Mel said: “That was quite hard to come to terms with but I am at peace with that and I know that’s not how it works.”

Mel, who fell into a deep depression following Jacinta’s death, has apologised to the Saldahna family for her part in the nurse’s demise, saying: “It was a really intense moment.”

The star, who faced global criticism following the hoax call, hopes to move on from the tragic incident and says that she will do ‘whatever she can to be a mother.’
