Going to Ballybofey for the BH weekend in a couple of weeks with my two girls - ages 9 and 10.

Don't know Donegal at all so wondering what you would suggest we do?

I've heard about Glenveigh National Park and it looks like it's worth the trip?, would this take most of one day?

Anything else?, I've got it in my mind that I'd love us to try horseriding - any recommendations for the area?

How about restaurants that are nice (and cheapish!).

Thanks everyone, really looking forward to our girls weekend away - the boy is going off with his Dad!

hi you might get a few ideas from this..

http://www.fundays.ie/listings.asp?county=Donegal

hope you have a lovely weekend and the weather brightens up for the bank holiday, it's so cold and drizzly here today..glenveagh is beautiful and you would probably take a day out of it between getting there and looking around it..there are some lovely walks around the castle and the visitor centre usually has events on for the bank holidays

in ballybofey itself, there's a forest walk along the river. nice to do, lots of people go running there too. glenveagh park is a good 30-40min drive away. i think you'd wanna go on a dry day really and its very easy to just keep driving around all those back roads LOL. donegal town is lovely and there's heritage things to do and see eg the castle. letterkenny is 20min drive away from ballybofey. good for eating, drinking, shopping. there's also aura swimming pool, and there's playcentre too (jungle king i think its called). there's also lurgybrack pet farm too which kids would really enjoy too. and for all the family, there's an entertainment centre called the Arena (i think) and there's bowling, indoor play area, go karts etc and bar and restaurant.

We went to Donegal for a week last year and it just wasn't long enough for everything we wanted to do. I'd been to Glenveigh a few times before and still enjoyed it last summer.

There is a boat trip from Donegal town that we wanted to do but didn't http://www.donegalbaywaterbus.com/ it looks great. LOVE Donegal, enjoy :-)

Glenveigh is lovely - I think worth the drive (I visited it while staying in Ballybofey).

Wow Im from Ballybofey and didn't realise there was so much to do around there  ...I'm actually heading up there this weekend.
I spent a lot of my time in that forest in my youth
Theres a horse riding place just outside the town... AFAIR its called Finn Farm (Gallaghers), Im sure its still there.
If you get a chance the V spa in the Villa Rose is just fabulous.
Theres also a bowling alley in Letterkenny.

Thanks everyone!

Really looking forward to it - just wish we were going for longer!

Yep, will do Glenveigh on one of the days. Will look up that boat trip and that horseriding place. Will probably go into Letterkenny one of the evenings for the cinema and a bite to eat.

Would love to try the V Spa but it will be just me and my girls so won't get a chance! (we're staying in Kees Hotel - great reviews on Trip Advisor so I hope it's nice!).

Will have one dinner in the hotel - any nice restaurants in Ballybofey for another night?

Thanks again.

Zafron (sp) is just across the rd from Kee's and is lovely... have eaten there a few times... if its the weekend your going you may have to book.
Kees is in Stranorlar about a 5min walk into Ballybofey. Again the Villa Rose(in Ballybofey) has a lovely restaurant but could be pricey.
