Ds2 has a stomach pain all day in his middle/right side. His teacher mentioned it when he came out of school but said it was prob because of getting a new teacher that week. He's complaining on and off about it all day but is eating & drinking and playing away fine. He just called from upstairs and said he still has the pain and it hurts when i press stomach, his temp is 38.8 and he's a bit pale. Am waiting for call back from out of hrs doc but just wondering is there anything viral going around with these syptoms atm?

could possibly be appendicitis. if he's not well i'd suggest seeing a doc.

I have something similar Angel, I am putting it down to being constipated though, I have been in agony all day. I am freezing too so I'd say I have a cold or something.
I hope he is better soon, it's such a worry when they are sick :(

That's what i'm afraid of :( Will be seeing doc,you have to wait to speak to nurse first and then get appt time so just waiting for call back. Would he not have vomiting as well though?

Rose he's not constipated anyway as he went a while ago and forgot to flush :sigh:

Is the pain around his belly button ? If so it could be appendicitis as kangaroo said.
Hope it isn't .

Try pushing gently where the pain is, if it hurts more when released than when you push it could well be appendicitis
Hope not too !

It could well be his appendix but if he is playing and eating normally I would say its not a matter of urgency.

Can he jump up in the air without complaining of the pain getting worse or bring his knees up to his stomach. If he can do those without much difficulty it is probably not appendicitis.

Can he go for a wee ok?it may be a UTI.Try and get a sample before you go to doc.

If it was appendicitis would he not be in a lot more pain?

Also that temp is only a tiny bit raised. Hope the out of hrs dr rings back soon.

I can remember when I was in secondary school being in terrible pain like that. Went to see the gp who after some examination wanted to send me to the local hospital to have my appendix taken out. Just before I left he checked my urine to find out that I had a pretty nasty UTI...it could be the same for your wee man. I hope he gets better soon. Will he take fluids for you...even small sips?

Girls in the creche said a few kids were complaining of this so its a bug going around

Hope your DS is feeling better soon

His temp is 38.8 that's more than a little raised . As others have suggested the rebound while pressing down also is a indicator and also try the hoping test . If he canT hop on one leg it can be a indicator . I would actually say lower temp for appendix plus vomiting but could not out rule it with his symptoms so you may need to be seen .

Ds1 complaining same way here today but hoping fine and no rebound . Turned out to be constipation in our case .

FWIW a friend of mine's husband was feeling unwell a few weeks back - just a bit off with stomach pain in the middle and radiating to lower right. he was able to drop kids to school and do some light DIY work around the house. they were putting it down to food poisoning. he had appendicitis and spent 10 days in hospital.

just because there's a virus going around doesn't mean your son has that virus.

Just checked the leaflet and its 10 mg domperidone.......I think it should be ok with Nurofen, as far as I know it can affect antibiotics but not general OTC medicine......hope you feel better too - I have lost 3lbs since I got this so every cloud eh?? :)

Well doc checked him out and thinks he may have swollen stomach glands as his neck glands are a bit raised and he may be coming down with flu (does sound a bit fluey alright)...he had the swollen stomach glands once before, about 2 years ago but was in a lot more pain then so i didn't think of it. I actually took a sample of urine before we went to doc,he needed the loo and i just thought of grabbing sample bottle in time, had a few lying around (clean ones!) after being pregnant. The pain is exactly around his belly button so will still keep an eye but he's conked out now so don't want to wake him. Will keep him at home tomorrow as he looks wrecked. Thanks for replies.

Well not being a doctor I made a mistake.

Wasn't getting at you I am just a bit pedantic about medical things on the Internet and rarely give advice myself .sorry if I came across this way .

Angel09 hope he is feeling a bit better today and recovers quickly . Awful lot of doses out there at the minute still recovering from one last weekend myself .

He had a high temp all night, had to strip him down and cover him lightly, still 38.3 this morning so he's at home for the day. Loads of viral things going alright, that's why i said i'd come on and check symptoms, he could be fine tomorrow though hopefully :bigups:
