Panicking a bit here!! We need to be out of our house by the end of June - Sell/throw away a lot of stuff and prepare the house for rent and packing to move abroad.

Will be doing most of it on my own as DH working abroad. Just wondering when to finish up work. Would two weeks be enough time for the final surge ( will be doing a lot over the next few weeks at evenings and weekends), or should i give it two weeks. The girls will be out of the house from 9-1.45 everyday.

Give it as much time as you can. I've done it with small babies but it is a lot for one person. Call in all the babysitting favours you can and when you have to have them at home stack up on DVDs to distract them. Consider getting professional cleaners for when you've moved out - it's a big ask for you to do all of it with packing and kids in tow. When in doubt - throw out!

Good luck Donnie!

This is our 4th house in 4 years (never ever ever ever moving again as we have finally bought). I moved twice when pregnant. I would say as the others say give yourself as long as possible. Have you somewhere to put all of your stuff as you pack it away i.e. storage place etc and how far away is it from your current house.

One of our house moves was 20 minutes drive there and back from other house and that added an awful lot of time to our move.

Hire someone to do any heavy moving.

We used a "man with a van" for all of our moves and they were fantastic. DH had beds dis-esembled etc for the van but maybe you are leaving them there for renters.

go through each room and write a list of what is moving/staying so you can thick it off as you go. If you have somewhere to put stuff when it is packed up write on the list where it is to be put as this is handy for anyone helping you with the move.

Get someone else to clean the house.

Bin stuff we are terrible hoarders and seem to move rubbish from one house to the next.

good luck!

It took us 2 weeks to pack up a 2 bedroom flat  crazy amount of stuff had to be given away and rubbish dumped.

It took me 4 days to pack up a 4 bed, 3 story house. That was with 3 other adults and 2 children (DS and a friend of his) helping - we had 3 cars between us. It was a lot of work, and it was full on days.

I would give yourself as much time as you possibly can, and be ruthless too.

We are doing it in a few weeks and Im doing NOTHING in advance as DH is abroad! We have already had a skip to clear out garden and some of attic. We are getting in professional movers to pack everything we can fit into the container, we dont lift a finger. We have another skip coming to throw what we dont take with us into. We have a painter lined up to touch up paint, a maintenance guy to come in and do a few jobs, a carpet cleaner and a general cleaner and then a few friends to help move in furniture. This is all happening in 4 days!! There is no way I could mind little kids and help with any of the above but we have NO family support nearby to help so have to pay people to help us!!

Would start to declutter now and pack away things don't need, eg Xmas decorations. Would second professional packers and would also leave some time as extra.

Make sure to list all items packed, it saves time the other end.

DS had high fever and just wanted his own bed on the day our professional packers came!

Can you get professional packers just for packing alone? Not taking any furniture so just shipping about ten boxes ( I think!!)
