couldn't put them down! Really enjoyed the three of them. The first book was our book to read for the book club that i am part of. We took ourselves off to the pictures to see the film last week then discussed the book/movie afterwards. 5 out of 6 of us gave it the thumbs up! :bigups:

Would this book be suitable for an 8 year old boy?
It's not for my son but I was looking at an American Vlog during the week and the family had bought this to read with their son.
just curious !

I loved them. I found the 3rd one a little weak compared to the others. I'm hoping to get to the movie on Wednesday night :-)

no way. very adult themes - very bleak. I don't think it particularly suitable for 11 year olds either. I think it is a young adult novel as in teenagers.

Loved the books - am on the third one at the moment, think the first book is the strongest by far. Loved the film as well - really well done.

My daughter will be eleven in the summer and a voracious reader but I don't these books are suitable for her at the moment. Will give it a couple of years.

just started the first one today and have struggled to put it down  Im also hoping it encourages me to try harder with my e-reader which I have 2.5 years and have never really taken to. Have the next 2 lined up and hoping it gets me back into reading mode.

Is anyone not overly impressed with it? I am 3/4s way through it and while it is good I don't think it's brilliant. I will read the trilogy though.

Maybe it's my age, not aimed at the over 40s  But it's definitely not suitable for an 8 year old.

Clauds - I'm in the over 40's group as well and LOVED the first one, second one okay and am struggling with the third one.

Def not suitable for young children in my opinion, will be waiting a couple of years until I give them to my now ten year old dd.

Book picked up at the end but it wasn't the best book i've read. I loved the concept for the book though. The ending was very good.

Way better than any of the twilight books!

finished part 1 tonight and enjoyed it but dont know if I could watch the movie, some parts are a bit gruesome and most definetly not for an 8 year old.

Just thought I'd recommend a book series for anyone (like myself) that loved the hunger games series.

You might like the 'Gone' series by Michael Grant. There are 5 books so far (and the last in the series coming out next year) Gone, Hunger, Lies, Plague , Fear. I know, delightful titles right? But like the hunger games, they are pretty grim in parts (alot of parts). But they are very gripping. The best description I have seen is , "Stephen king meets the X-men" (Stephen King is a big fan of these actually). The plot is basically everyone over the age of 14 disappears in a town called Perdido Beach and (the under 15's) are all encased within an impenetrable bubble (sort of a dome), completely blocked off from the outside world. Some of the kids develop supernatural powers.

Anyway, I'm loving the series and thought some of you might like them too

It was ok. Book one was readable and a good story but the writing got very weak by book 3 and I was rushing through it to get it over with. Not bad but disappointing that she didn't follow through with the quality of the first one.
