I always say/write Congrats but I noticed on Facebook today that more than a couple of people wrote congrads. Which do you use. Is Congrads a mistake or am I missing something?

Probably the same people who say 'anal' at the end of their facebook comments.

My niece was telling the whole world on Facebook once that she had a 'sore trout anal'. I replied telling her i'd report her for animal cruelty

Neither to be perfectly honest but if it has to be shortened, it should be to the letters that are actually in the word itself so congraTs and that is all.

And this is why I don't accept friend requests from the younger ones - and if I do I hide their updates! Makes me want to crawl into through the screen and give them a good shaking! I pity the poor English teachers these days!

:stern: OK, which one of you ticked 'Congrads'? I hope that was a slip of the mouse. To be honest, I had never seen 'Congrads' written this way before opening this post, and it has upset me greatly. There are already enough crimes against the English language on the Interweb. Reading the FB pages of my niece and nephew makes my teeth itch.

Ok looks like it's just wrong so. Is it one of those ones that people do purposely though or do they just not realise?

I agree - congratulations is the word - I hate a lot of slang type shortened versions of words... Same with text messages especially from primary school teachers but I think that is just me :sleepy:

+1 - why shorten it... it doesn't take that long to type the full word!

actually thinking about it, it probably stems from teh fact that lots of people pronounce the word as 'conGRADulations' - certain afternoon DJ's on Tod@y FM are among the worst offenders.

Same here, I have a number of FB friends whose posts have that effect on me, worryingly enough they are not my sons, nieces or nephews but my own contemporaries.
