Anyone used this?

Started it last week with DD. I'd be interested in hearing other people's experiences or advice. I know crosses are not allowed but DD even gets mad or frustrated if I put a dot! I try to explain it's to help her but she just sees it as a reminder of something she can't do. Hopefully she'll get used to it. At least she's agreeing to do it with me without too much fuss. I hope to God it's worth the money!

It's a 40 euro exercise book - I think it's mainly used for children with dyslexia which DD doesn't have - her reading difficulties are down to poor memory - but resource teacher is hoping it will work for her.

Never heard of it either until your post so I googled it too and it is getting brilliant reviews. I must look into it myself! Thanks for that! Can you let us know how you get on with it?

I did this with Ds1 over the summer holidays probably about 6 years ago. It really helped him but you have to stick to the rules and routine of it which is a bit of a pita when life gets busy on those days! But it really is worth it and after she gets into the routine of realising on day 2 or 3 how she has improved from the previous day she should settle into the routine of it.
I found it brought him right back to the basics and then built on those.
Best of luck.

I used it with my dd and she hated getting stuff wrong too. It is a PITA to do everyday but it is well worth it in the end.

I've used it lots with children getting Learning Support and it is really good. I'm going to start it with DS during the summer because although he is doing ok he will not read unless it's homework and I'm afraid he'll take a step backwards over the summer if he reads nothing at all. Well worth the money IMO and they get used to the dots very quickly.

I went to training on toe by toe in tallaght in 2011. Details were on toe by toe website. It was good & cost 20 euro.

Editing to say that the training was €20. The book was reduced in price on the day as well. Keda's son gave the training. She was a support teacher who had dealt with many dyslexic students over the years. The toe by toe book is the result of her life's teaching experience.

Bloody hell - I feel robbed now. Bought it in O'Mahony's for 40 euro!

Doodle - do you know whether the child is allowed to either make more than one attempt at a sound or to delay a little while working it out? Or do you have to put a dot if they don't get it correct immediately?

I use it in learning support. At the start I allow a little leeway in how quickly the child reads the word but I clamp down a bit as we get more into it. I give a star for every line without a dot, because it's a hard slog. Ten stars= tiny prize. It is excellent for any child having difficulties with word reading but best used from about 3rd class up.

Our school supplied the book for my Dd2 we are finding it excellent and she loves doing and I have to say that 4 weeks in the progress is amazing. She is in 3rd class.
