It's impossible to go by clothes sizes to know what size you are.
I would have been an 18 -22 before I lost weight. I cleared out my wardrobe a couple of weeks ago so everything in it fits me as I am now and I have xs, s, M, L and XL and 8,10,12 and a couple of 14.
Every shop seems to be different when it comes to sizes. I don't confine myself to being a certain size.

16 to 18 depends on the store. I don't consider myself "plus size"

I'm pear-shaped so a size larger in trousers/skirts than in tops. Thanks to Sunnysan's advice though, I now know I am a size smaller in each than I thought and always wore.

Size 12 in maternity gear, some of it is a bit snug at this stage!

I'd say il be a big 14 for a while after and hopefully back to normal size of 12 in a few months.

I'm a 13 - most 14's are a little big and depending on the clothes 12 are either ok or a little tight.

So the 12s are up there BUT
if there are so many 12s on MM why are there so many weight loss threads?
or does everyone want to be an 8

Not necessarily. I'm a 12 and am happy to stay a 12 but I prefer when the 12's are loose rather than just about ok. Hence the aiming for a few lbs off.

Because if some of us are a 12 we are technically overweight . At 5ft 3 and a petite frame if I am a size 12 I have a BMI of about 28 and I am overweight and near enough to obese . Clothes sizes don't matter a damn really if you are small or petite a tall person could be a size 12 and very thin and small person a size 12 and overweight .

I'm a 10 now after being a 12 for a long time. Now when I was a 12 my bmi was about 24, so not exactly perfect, I would prefer it was lower. I'm 5'6" or so. I'm almost the biggest of my pals I think.

I'm a 12-14 on average depending on the shop but am only 5'0 and could do with losing about a stone and a half. If you saw me in a photo you would think I am fat

same as, I am 5ft also and need to loose a stone although I am 10-12. I am getting there though, now that I have realised my size 6-8 days are well and truly over!
