I processed our med 1 form through paye online.
I recieved less than half of the payment via my bank yesterday.
I phoned revenue today and checked all their figures with mine from the P60 and also to do with 52/53 weeks all looks fine.
I asked why the underpayment and I was told "not sure, there has been an underpayment somewhere, however I dont know where".
So I have been asked to send in a copy (via email) of our p60's which I have done.

However I am confused, how could the revenue not know where an underpayment has taken place, surely they have all the figures to hand, and furthermore how can an underpayment occur??
We have not changed jobs or made any claims we have both been working in the same place for over 3 years.

confused - hell yes - can anyone shed any light on this for me.

Did either you or your partner claim disability benefit for the year you are claiming? If so, this will go down as income and is taxable. You just need a statement from employer saying you gave it to them if in fact you did this!

ETA my med1 claim was short by 100 euro for last year and it was because Dh had claimed social welfare for sick benefit for 2 wks last year. He just get letter from his employer to say monies had been returned to them.

No neither of us have ever claimed anything like this tbh we have never even claimed job seekers (to date we have been very very lucky I know this) the only thing I have claimed has been maternity in 2008 and 2010 and I am due maternity this year again at the end of April.

It cud be your mat benefit that has thrown it out.

When i did my claim, I got half the payment into my bank account and my DH received a cheque in the post a few days later for the balance. The same happened last year. Don't know why they seem to process my claims this way as we are jointly assessed and the bank details are for our joint account. Maybe the same will happen for you.

Not sure. But at least you'll officially know that your figures are correct.

This happened to us too a few times although not recently since I became a SAHM. I have no idea why they processed it this way.

Edited to add - is your P21 available online?

If you are jointly assessed and both of you have income any tax refund will be split in proportion to the income each person earns. If only one person has income all the refund goes to them.

The reason part of the refund is made by cheque could be that Revenue have not updated their records to show the bank details for both people.

Ah thanks for clearing that up Leela. Yeah we are both working and DH prob hasn't updated his banking details with Revenue....he leaves all that stuff to me!
Makes no odds to us anyhow as it all goes into the same pot in the end :D

Off topic I know but do you mind me asking what timeframe your claim took?

I sent in this and last year's claim last weekend and I can't remember how long it took to process the last time
