I'm scheduled next week to have it removed. Im nervous and don't want to but on the other afraid not to. Only had 1 attack, last June, and was hospitalized and one other minor one at Xmas. So really have managed the diet well. If I was "normally" healthy, I'd refuse it and keep managing. Buy, I'm in remission for a lymphoma and who knows when it may come back. If I refuse op, Is be afraid of another attack and maybe being too ill to have it removed, if cancer comes back. Am I making sense? :)

I guess I'm looking for reassurance. I hate the thoughts if general anasthesia. I'm also worried, if it is removed I might have other issues associated with it being gone or complications. Basically, I'm being a big wuss. :) Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear of your health problems but regarding the gallbladder, its a minor op and removes the worry of having another attack.

I had mine removed six years ago after over a year of attacks and it was the best thing I've ever done. I get bouts of diarrhoea since but it's nothing compared to the gallstone pain, true too of the recovery from surgery: after about two weeks I was completely recovered.

The only problem was I put on about two stone after cos I made a pig of myself eating the food I couldn't eat before.

Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

I got mine removed 2 years ago. Like Nahary said, stones dont disappear and if they get stuck it can be dangerous. Its worth getting out, as the atacks will get worse and more frequent.

Thanks ladies.... I'm going to do it. Feel the fear and all that. It really is the most practical thing to do. One MM PMd me and relayed similar and in the end it was better to have it out.... so say a prayer for me Tuesday and a speedy recovery. :D

Forgot to update you all, until someone asked... :D

I feel great now, 6 weeks later... best thing to have done, now I look back.

It took 3 weeks to start to feel normal again for me. I so underestimated the recovery time... I thought I'd be running about in 5 days.... lol It is organ removal so a bit silly to underestimate, as I did.... :stupid: It was on Easter Hols too so really hard with the girls about to entertain. I went to my Moms after for about 4 days to feel human, before I went home.

The op was fine...pain relief good. Had a little reaction to the sedative that night but only a little nausea and small amount vomiting. The hard part was getting sleep in the public ward with 2 wandering, dementia pateients. My nerves were frayed :Jumpy: with them.... one was an escape artist and kept managing to get out of the bed, over the bars.... during the day...she was so sedate...

They were going to send me home the next day but I really wasn't happy with less than 24-hour release so I insisted one more night. :bomb: Partly because I have a clotting history and I am in remission for cancer, so not the run of the mill patient.

When I was released, from Blanchardstown Hospital, that was it...no follow up appt. Not sure all hospitals do this now. So anyone else, insist on an outpatient appt, if you aren't happy with this. I ended up hounding them for one after I got out as 2.5 weeks later the navel wound wasn't healed....they kept saying go to GP. I wasn't happy with that, as they did the op, not the GP. A week later, I had to chase them again, as I'd discovered an internal stitch, that had worked its way out and they missed the week before. Again, the go to GP merry go round.... :onfire: I had to insist again a surgeon check it and remove it....not a GP....I didn't know how long the suture was inside and a GP wouldn't know either but would also charge me for the fact. I went back and a nurse removed it...came out easily enough but was long. The rest had dissolved.

Not trying to scare anyone... that was unusual but I want to stress make sure you get an outpatients appt, if you feel you want one and also stay an extra night, if they want to turf you out the next day. They will keep you, if you aren't happy so don't be afraid to ask.

We went away for a few days so I could rest.. kids had kids club and I stayed in the room resting... when you are at home, you feel you should be doing something. Take as much help as you can....

My Dr said eat as normal after the op but the nurses said eat little fat and introduce slowly back.... the only one I had an issue with was butter for about a week but after that I was flying. ;)

I was low after the op, so got a chest infection following for 2 weeks and then some sort of face rash following this..... finally after 6 weeks.... I feel NORMAL and GREAT again.... :D So anyone considering it.... get it done..... life is so much easier now without it. :D

All the best!
G

Great to hear you had the op and your now fully recovered.
I had my gallbladder removed as a private patient and I was discharged the following morning without having had anything to eat and was never followed up with either. In saying that though I had no problems and like you it took a good 3 weeks to recover fully, I was out of work for those 3 weeks.
