Ds2 was 9lbs 5oz and while it was a fast labour (6hrs from start to finish) it hurt like hell! I couldn't believe the pressure and the last hr was just constant pain and pushing. Left with 3 tears and loads of stitches. Had my growth scan on Tues last and this baby looks like he'll be the same as his brother so i've started getting nervous already. There would be no time for epidurals as i dialate quickly and i tried pethidine with ds1 and hated it so would love to know how people coped with theirs. I had to give birth lying down (monitor stuck to baby's head) and i heard squatting or all fours is meant to be easier, anyone do this?

DD2 was just off 9lbs. And her labour was so quick I can't really class it as labour!

I was up on my knees, leaning over the raised head of the bed. Yes the pain/pressure was immense but she really delivered herself in a few pushes.

I'll be praying for a similar experience for number 3 :)

DD was 9lbs on the button and her labour was hell but it was nothing to do with size and all to do with her being OP as far as I'm concerned. At least that's what I am clinging to as they tell me this one is significantly bigger!

Labour was really only a few hours, there wasn't time for an epidural when they examined me. I don't remember pain, I think the labour pains were quite intense, but it was the tremendous pressure I remember really clearly. I started pushing and kinda panicked as I thought my entire bottom half was going to explode from the pressure (temporary insanity anyone?) :lookround:
DD came out and was MASSIVE. She weighed in at 9lb 10oz and there was no tearing. I didn't feel pain when she was coming out, just pressure. Did I mention the pressure?

Good luck, don't be worrying yourself, hopefully it will be a completely different experience for you. x

At the growth scan on Tues she said he's approx 4lbs,7 oz already so with 8 weeks to go that would be about right. Ds1 was 7lbs 12oz but that was with my ex and dp and his brothers and sisters were all 9lbs and above, biggest was 10lbs 5oz and she said the birth weight can go in families. I was 7lb 14 myself at birth.
Virgo they are some big babies alright!!

Jojo that sounds fab, that's the kind of birth i'd like :D

Miss velvet that's it exactly, the pressure is unreal! How did you manage with no tearing? Jealous!

Pure dumb luck I think Angel  My cousin gave birth the month before that to a 7lber and she got so many stitches, they wouldn't tell her the exact amount
When they examined me after, apparently I had a 'papercut' tear. It stung when I peed for a day or two, that was it. She (the cousin) hated me for a few days........

My DS4 was 10lb 9.5 ozs  I had a similar labour with him to my previous 2 DS (ds2 was 7 14lb and ds3 was 8.5lb), I had a sore back throughout the pregnancy so that didnt help during labour, but I pushed him out sitting on a birthing stool in 3 or 4 pushes, with no tear no stiches  The only difference in his labour and my other DS's was that I couldnt lie up on the the bed with him to push but that was due to the back ache, so I was delighted when the midwife produced the birthing stool was a god send!
Also I must add that a friend of mine had her baby a few weeks before me and she was just over 5lb so half the weight of my DS4 and she had to have an episiotomy. So I think in some cases the big babies seem to have gravity working in their favour??!!

DS was 9 lb 6 oz I think. 35 minutes with the aid of 2 pandadol. The last 4 minutes we very hard. I had a tear but it was along the scar from the tear I got on my first, that tore again on each labour. I was sitting up on a bed for the labour.

Gravity defo helps my 7lb baby was a forceps delivery after 72 hours. my 9.5lb baby was an hour and a half labour and 3 pushes in 6 mins.

Best of luck

My DS2 was 9lb 5, I delivered him with no stitches and just a few tiny tears that healed up fine.
DS1 was 7lb 4 and a bloody nightmare, episiotomy , stitches, the works.
My second and third labours were just more "efficient" than my first, I didn't find that the size of the baby was a big factor, three of my babies were OP, that was a pain in the ass, literally :D I had massive pressure for weeks before my heavy babies( 9lb 5 & 9lb 7) were born, that was the big difference .

I was induced so a bit different, but "established" labour from ARM to birth was from 5pm to 11.55pm, went from 8cm tocrowning in 15 mins and he flew out in 4 pushes. I did tear though, I think because it was so quick in the end. He was 9lb and OP so most of the pain was in my back.

Ds 2 was 9lbs 6. Labour was about 55 minutes from start to finish. Kind of like Claire C where the last five minutes were fairly bad with the pressure and I remember roaring at the nurse asking her what the f**k she was doing to me and to stop doing it (she was doing nothing!!). Just two stitches I think - he did the least amount of damage out of the three and he was the biggest and the quickest :-)

What pain relief did ye all use? I ended up using nothing on ds2 as like i said the pethidine didn't suit me and no time for epidurals. Ds1 i used gas and pethidine. Is there an alternative? I did try the tens but found the only thing it did was annoy me.

Nothing on the last two - they were both quick thank goodness :-) Personally I'm okay with labour - alright it's absolutely horribly painful but what makes me cringe is the pushing - ouch !

DD1 was 9lb4 and in an oblique lie. After 10 hours of labour, 4+ of them on a drip with an epidural, I was still only 4cm dilated. My blood pressure spiked and I was given a section. Obs told me I'd never have a vaginal birth as my pelvis was too small :bomb:

DS was 9lb11 and I had a VBAC after 10.5 hours labour, just over 20 minutes pushing stage. I had a half dose of pethidine at 4cm, waters were broken at 6.5cm and I had gas and air after that. I was able to keep changing position, even though I had a drip in for fluids. He was born with no interventions and I only had a second degree tear :bigups:

Given the choice between the two, I'd take DS's birth any time.

DD was 10 lbs 1 oz. Had a sweep at 3:30 and she was born just after 8; the labour was only intense for about 40 minute or so. Had a little gas and air. It hurt, but not more than I expected. I was on my knees leaning over the back of the bed. I had a graze on my labia, same as with DS - just stung a little but didn't need a stitch. No tearing. She wasn't that much longer than DS who was 8 lbs 4 oz. She has an average sized head, DS has a big head. The only difference was she had big squishy thighs and chubby wrists and ankles. Not any harder to push out.

OP babies can take longer to deliver I think, the baby has to turn as it comes down , I can't really compare as all three of my regular deliveries were OP, DS4 was delivered by CS.
Hopefully if this baby is facing the right way it might help with the labour for you.

All four of mine, were big babies. But my third baby, was 10lbs , he was my easiest labour and I only had 3 stitches . My Fourth was 9lbs 4oz, and again, my easiest . I had the epidural on them all . Ds1 was my worst, though he was a forceps baby, so I think no matter his size he would have been forceps anyway , he was 9lbs 1 oz . I had got very tired at the end , so I needed help .

DS2 and DS3 were both just under 9lbs, after my experience with DS1  I was determined to do things my way, I stood up for most of my labour leaning over the side of the bed - agree that gravity def helps things along - I used gas and air and only got on to the bed as they were about to be born

DS2 was born in an hour and a half - no stitches, DS3 arrived after an hour and 20 minutes again no stitches

Dont be worrying to far ahead of yourself, you will be grand on the day :bigups:
