Friend of a friend just named their child this. I usually have no comment on what people call their children but I cringed when I heard it. Am I alone?

I love it.

I think of Rupert Campbell Black of Jilly Cooper novel fame :inlove: rather than Rupert the Bear.

Rupert of the Rhine

Rupert from the Prisoner of Zenda.

Wouldn't be my choice but I've heard worse (a lot worse!)

I think of Rupert Murdoch or Rupert Everett.

Would not be to my taste at all. Roo is a cute nickname though!

I have cringed a lot over what some people call their kids but you know what, each to their own. I would have q private snigger to myself but that's it.

I like it. A family member has that name so I suppose I am just used to it.

I like it as well, could imagine introducing my DS as Rupert actually.

On first viewing I thought yuck, but it's growing on me now. It's not vastly different to DS's name and I did say I didnt like it either in a poll here a few years back

I hate it. It was the nickname my two mean older sisters gave me when I was a little 'un. My name does not have an Irish equivalent so they told me when I started school and the teacher was calling out the roll in the morning she would call me Rupert as there was no Irish name to call me. It made my first day of school pretty traumatic. Bitches!!

Maybe that is why I cringed at it - they are from Newcastle and the mother has the same accent as Cheryl Cole! It just sounded 'wrong'. Maybe it was the accent not the name.... I actually think it is growing on me now lol

I know a Rupert who is now in his mid 30's and even growing up he got a terrible slagging in school over his 'posh' name.

I'm weird but I've always really liked it .. I wouldnt give it to an Irish kid but if I was to have married an Eton Old Boy or similar, it would have been on my list :-)
