Hi all, I'm just checking in here to see if anyone is interested in forming a new GIY group in their area (or joining an existing one close by). it's the time of the year to start thinking about growing your own veg and would be a great time to pick the brains of experienced growers, share tips and get loads of help with your growing. GIY is made up of pure novices who are thinking of growing tomatoes on their balcony to large veg gardeners.
I'll be helping to set up new GIY groups in Connaught but can point people in the right direction if they're thinking of getting involved elsewhere in the country. Both my DH and I are involved in the organisiation so should be able to answer a lot of questions between us!
From the GIY website... GIY is a registered charity (CHY 18920) – we bring people together in community groups and online to share tips, expertise and produce. There are nearly 100 GIY groups around Ireland and approximately 12,000 people involved between our community groups and online social network. The organisation has recently established in Australia and will launch in the UK in May 2012.
Feel free to PM me or post if you have any questions.
I have to say it is SO rewarding to be growing your own veg and we save so much money in the process. Kids are involved too and it's great for them. DS2 (age 3) was very proud of his pumpkins this Halloween. He planted the seeds and nurtured them until they turned into fully fledged pumpkins. We have hens, are planning on adding pigs to the mix and have just purchased a beehive.
