If you start now you will be ready to do the brilliant Metro St Brigid's St Patrick weekend 5k race, it's almost exactly 9 weeks later!

This is a great race, really flat, and right through town - You start off on Dawson st, go around the Green, down Baggot st and down the canal. Great crowd support all along the route & very well organised.

There is nothing like the buzz and sense of achievement you get from learning to run & doing your first race.
Running has changed my body & my life :)

Hear-hear! I never thought that running could be fun and used to giggle at joggers who ran past.

Started running in Sept and did first 5K race yesterday. I feel great and my body is getting it's shape back. Thought it never would after kids.

C25k is just brilliant. Did it earlier this year and have done my first 5k too. Got lazy towards the end of the year, but will be back at it early in the New Year  That looks like a great run to aim for too

I started this at the beginning of this year. It has totally changed my life!!! Ran my first 5k in March last year and in August I ran a half marathon. I'm still running and I love t. I've lost loads of weight and I feel so much better.

I love running. It's the only exercise I actually enjoy. Unfortunately my dodgy back has me sidelined for now but my physio promises me that he'll get me back running by next summer. I really really miss it.

I did this last year, inspired by AandL and now I am addict (but in nice way)

I havent been running for few weeks, where in between snow I managed to do one short run. Today finaly no ice on the roads, I am waiting on DH to wake up and I am going for a it! It's great stress releive, even more so then anything else for me. I have been draming of ice free day for few weeks, I am not kidding you! And I hated running right up to week 8 of c25k.

Sorry girls I thought I had included the link in my original post

Here's the basic plan
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

or you can (I did) download podcasts to your ipod/shuffle for each weeks plan and you listen to it as you run so you don't have to time your run/walks yourself
http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/

I'd rec if you are still doing it by week 4 to go & get yourself fitted in a running shop (and get gait analysis). In the meantime wear the most supportive runners you have, a strong sports bra, and tech fabric gear - NOT heavy cotton which will be too heavy & chaf.

Enjoy it and even though it seems hard, maybe even impossible at the beginning, you can do it... and if you follow the plan you WILL be able to run.

I am so tempted to try this but I am so incredibly unfit I wouldn't know where to start!

The thought of alternating Jogging and walking for 20 minutes has me rather nervous, I haven't ran for years!

Im really temped to try this too. I used to walk 5 days a week, but i just dont seem to be able to motivate myself to get back into it, plus ive no one to keep me company anymore :lookround: I like the idea of listening to this as I'm doing it, and just doing what it tells me.
So problem 1, where would I get a (cheap) ipod?

I use an ipod shuffle when running & find it great as it just clips on...I believe the new ones aren't great though
A search of argos came up with this one which seems to clip on too

i have been talking about doing this since babs was born (15 weeks ago) and have done walking until the snow stopped me, i'm itching to get fit and lose rest of baby weight so finally on 1st jan i am going to start it come hail. rain or snow, so what about making a list of who is starting this programme for the first time, i know there is a thread already on c25k programme but most on that have been doing it a while so for completely beginners starting on 1st jan add you name to list

Rather freakily early this morning I was thinking about running again and actually do the C5K in full this time, to build up slowly... I even worked out in my head that the 10 weeks would be up around St Patrick's Day and that maybe there would be a race on then I could sign up for :) .... Now seeing this thread, I am going to take that as a sign and get my ass in gear!.... My Christmas present to myself will be to download the C5K app onto the phone (it is the one with C5K in white writing on a light brown background).

Like the idea of the race being entirely in town on streets I normally drive through.... Count me in!

Okay I am so doing this now, been thinking about it and have downloaded the podcast (now all I need to do is locate my MP3 player, which is actually easier said than done!)

I have the treadmill too, so can start off on that until the weather gets nicer (or until I feel brave enough to actually go out in public and display my pathetic attempt at err......walking very fast  LOL!

I'll be watching this thread with interest. I started the c25k but never finished it and would love to run a 5k for real.
I think I'll join in with this group and do it properly from start to finish this time.

I Poop Rainbows - I could have written this, it sums me up!

Girls, count me in. I warn you that I may need some chastising along the way to keep me at it because I have realised that what I once thought was lack of motivation is actually just laziness! Paddys day is a good goal to have - it doesn't feel that far away yet we could achieve a lot. Great idea for the separate thread as we are all starting out together!

Have I just agreed to do this????
