Girls, I am sorry to be a plague but day one of my cloth nappy trial is not going great.... 2 poos which were fine but two pees that leaked and required whole outfit changes. His bum also feels really damp.

I'm using the stay dry insert in the nappy with nothing else. Am I missing something? Someone mentioned fleece - which brand is best or can I just cut up an old fleece blanket?!!!

Really want this to work as I love the price and style of the flips but getting disheartened.

I only get about 2-3 hours out of a Flip stay dry insert.

Maybe he's a heavy wetter. I am curious if anyone know if the Organic Cotton insert is more absorbant? I have some econobum cotton inserts and they are very absorbant if you have a heavier wetter.

I haven't tried the flip yet - have some readu to go for Dec - but on 2 ds's I used bumgenius (very similar I think) and I cut fleece liners from fleece blankets and they worked well and saved nappies getting stained from poo etc. so it was nappy, fleece liner then paper liner.

How old is your little one? you could try boosting with a thin booster.

Hope you manage to get sorted

Thanks for the replies. Ds is just gone seven months. He probably is a heavy wetter but I never noticed in the disposables. Its funny I thought poo would be my problem with cloth nappies!

I will try fleece. In any case, our cloth nappy experiment currently on hold anyway as I am visiting my parents for a few days and forgot the covers at home. Duh!

Best wishes for a happy and healthy pregnancy Ticktock!

Are you sure you have the insert the right way-smooth side against bum? I am changing every 2-3 hours too but the smooth side is dry enough & the other side soaking wet.

I find at the moment I am only get 2-3 hours out of them as DD is drinking so much with the heat. I have one of the organic ones but find it really bulky and DD definitely prefers the stay dry liners. I do find her bottom is a little damp but that is paying off as she is starting to ask to be changed! However we have had no nappy rash with them so don't think the dampness is an issue. The disposible liners are ok but only last with DD max two hours.

wolaholic,I dont have Flip, however i do have bumgenius and also fuzzybunnies,
I found when I first started putting on the nappies they used to leak. The problem was my own making belive it or not. I used to leave a little part of the leg folded in or a piece of the liner sticking out and this acted as a funnel for the wee's.
When you have the nappy on, Run your finger around the leg and make sure its all correctly placed and there is no liner sticking out. It may not be your problem but I said I better mention it anyway.

Do the organic one absorbe anymore though? Bulky is ok if they are only sleeping etc.

I also use 40cm terry towelling square folded in three. Because I also use bumgeius sometimes I put the infant insert from my bumgeius inside the terry towelling squre and that makes a quite small but absorbant nappy.
You can use anything absorbant and folded to size.

Something else I forgot to say about the leaking is that I found I had leaking issues when the size needed to change. It could be that.
