Sorry you are feeling rotten again E - have you ever tried Citricidal? its an amazing supplement - its grapefruit seed extract and its revolting so we take the capsules. It fights off residual, dormant or brewing infections and I swear blind its stopped Isabella getting a chest infection a good few times now. It really helped my kidney infection and I we think its what put DH into remission. Its our family elixer!

LOL! Thats my girl - when life gives you lemons etc.. ;)
Not feeling much although my gastroparesis is acting up a bit, so thats prob where the highs are coming from. Is the Citricidal easy to get (lazy me).

Thanks so much Dutchie. I've only been taking 25g for the bowl. Maybe that was without the milk.
Tomorrow will be better!!

Hi girls,
Hope you all enjoyed the weekend! We had a great time, the boys are really into it. DS2 loves dressing up and took his role as Darth Vader very seriously!
Redb, how are you getting on with your bs? How are you feeling? Any ms yet!?
I think the Roses have 8g each in them, like Dutchie says the amount of insulin you need for them compared to other stuff is mad. I'd bolus for them but take 2 to make it worth my while iykwim!
Went for my check-up yesterday, HbA1c is 6.7% (same as last time) so not bad at all considering things were a bit wobbly for a while changing over to the pump.....but the last few weeks have been v good so I think that made up for the high spell. I think I'm getting a handle on it now. I have 2 basal rate profiles, one for 1st 2 wks of cycle and then another for 2nd 2 weeks. I started temping this month for the first time ever and its interesting to see when I got a temp rise (which indicates rise in progesterone) that my bs go up at the exact same time. So I know the exact time to swap to 2nd profile!! Don't think I'll continue temping though, I just wanted to see if I was Ov cos things were different on the clomid. Chart says I ov'd so thats good to know.
The docs tested me for all sorts and I'm delighted to say all came back fine. Cholesterol is 5.0 but apparently its because I have lots of good (HDL) fats indicating I have a good diet (E, I know you're thinking, what about the choc, but I think a little treat everyday is ok!! ;) )
I've no coeliac anitbodies either, which shows my GF diet is working, yay!
I got the flu jab but can't say I noticed if it raised my bs- I wasn't expecting it to so wasn't looking out for it but now that I think about it, I'd say its certainly possible.

Delighted everything is going well ALMum long may this continue!

Kids had a blast trick & treating too. Can't beleive they're back to school 2moro :nervous: . The preperations for xmas will now begin. Haven'tbought a thing yet but have my list made out and will begin shortly...

Do all of ye have life insurance policies??? We have one with Caledonian Life but its 1000e every year - It pains us to have to pay it but better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it iyukwim?? Am going to see if I can get it cheaper elsewhere. Anyone got a good deal with a broker or insurance firm ???

Hi Dutchie,
After everyone had gone on Halloween night DS1 sat down and said, how many days until Christmas! They have their presents choosen although they keep trying to add extra stuff. When I told DS1 that that would be too much to ask Santa for he said well maybe you could get it for me instead
We don't have life insurance- only mortgage protection. It was something we were looking in to getting before Dh was made redundant now we can't afford it. Always wondered if they would load me anyway and it might be better to save teh money instead.......I don't know, its not something I've thought of recently as we just can't afford it. If you can, I'd say keep it but it depends on how valuable it is in terms of what you get vs what you pay and the restrictions on the policy.
Had a terrible hypo day yesterday. Went into Dublin city (involves a bit of walking) and we had fish & chips for lunch. I tried one of the new programs on the pump called the extended bolus which is for high far meals digested over a long time........well I don't know what happended if I just over estimated the bolus or what but I was going low until 10pm last night. I kept dropping esp from 4pm onwards was wrecked after it :sleepy: To top it off my stomach was crampy and bloated all day after so wondering if I was glutened as well (not the branch we usually go to).
Some days as a diabetic coeliac just don't work out. Hopefully it was just a once off :rockedover:

Poor you ALMum - I had a day like that on saturday: many hypos in a row. That seems to be a pattern for me unless I treat the first one really well with a snack as well as a hypo treatment.
I wonder about your fish and chips - did you phone the restaurant? You didn't get bloated before did you?

Dutchie and DM, would you ever consider a pump? At my last visit 2 weeks ago, then suggested I try one as they can't seem to work out a pattern for me.. I have talked to RedB and ALMum, but they were doing the hard sell  ;) . Thoughts? Ta'

Ah yeah just one those days, back on track today I think. Sometimes I wonder why I bother but the fish & chips are tasty, but v hard to work out the exact CHO- the chips are so chunky 1 or 2 extra is an extra CP I reckon and the batter on the fish varies in thickness!
I wasn't bloated beforehand no. It could have been just the size of the meal- they gave me an extra battered fish and since no-one else wanted it, I ate it as well while waiting for the kids to finish :wow: . Dunno, just don't normally get that feeling anymore.

Won't go on about the pump (unless you want me to :tellme: ) but have a look at the American websites to get more info on it and the DiabetesUK site. Try www.diabetesdaily.com for good info on the comparison of different pumps, on one of the threads they have a link to a table showing all the details pros & cons of each pump (if you can't find it let me know and I'll see if I can) but I remember getting a link there about it when I was looking.

Almum - are'nt kids smart arses eh lol!!!! Hope you've recovered from those hypos - not nice at all  You might have overestimated ur bolus dose plus you were doing a lot of walking too so that did'nt help either? What ever it is - its a learning curve so you'll know better next time you have ur fish & chips. Talking of fish & chips you just might have reacted to all the batter on the fish too

E - I have considered lots of time on doing the pump. My first step was doing the Berger Course. My DSN said that most people that she has put through the Berger course were quite happy to continue on injecting and doing the CHO counting exercise. She said some people went on the pump but came off it. Its a very personal decision to make. I'm such a technophobe that at the moment I'm not interested in "pumping". I can barely get my head around the cho shite but am getting there, never mind the stress of a pump to boot too

If you feel you've gotten a good grip on the CHO counting & are happy with your CHO ratio's maybe give the pump a go and see how you get on with it. We have the added bonus of having our own personal Dr's on board here - Dr RedB and Dr Almum

Almum, it could be that the fish and chips are high fat? I used to have fish and chips as treat at work on fridays before i did the dafne. After I did it and i know i was counting correctly each time an hour after eating I was getting hypo and then going really high later in the afternoon despite only treating hypo correctly. It happened a couple of times after the dafne so when i talked to the dafne nurses they told me that high fat foods can take longer to digest and recommended i take 50% insulin before meal and 50% na hour and half later. I tried this and it actually worked much better. In the end tho i decided not to have it as often cos it was a lot of insulin and i usually spent evening monitoring . So it worked out well for my tummy too

E , i havent really looked into it. Have always thought Nah, dont want to go there, too much work......but the girls are great sales women so im thinking of investigating a bit. It hasnt been suggested to me by anyone yet so will be prepared if it is.

Hope your all well
I put 4 lbs in 2 weeks just cos i wasnt doing long walks (was doing my mile every day with george the dog but no more). im disgusted so back on the band wagon now and walking miles every day again (walking is not my favourite pass time when i could be sitting reading or painting or anything  )

You see theres an "Extended Bolus" program on the pump for high fat foods which are digested over a number of hours which is what I tried- it delivers the insulin over a longer time than normal when you use this program, but I think the dose was too big which meant I went low over a number of hours!! I don't eat f & C v often (as its not worth the hassle) but every now and then is nice. I put on 3kg at my check-up too so need to get out exercising more myself. I think I've put on weight cos I was going low alot when I started the pump and then I went thru a hungry patch!
Dutchie, they do gluten-free batter on the chips, thats what they say anyway.
By the way, the pump works out your insulin for you once you tell it how much carbs you are eating so it actually makes the calculations easier for you

Well, just got a call from one of the diabetic nurses and they have no more funding for pumps for this year :( . Something to do with licences or patents or some such thing..
I am seeing the consultant in march, so she said "..that will come around quick enough anyway.." fucking easy for her to say..

I am obviously very impatient, but what kind of fucking system means that you can't even go and discuss the options - despite having three indications for a pump.. Don't know why I bother.
*big sigh*

(sorry for the rant :( )

E that's bloody crap to suggest it to you then take the option away. I don't know what to suggest. Are they saying they will put your name down in March? Could you ring them in the NY in Jan and put you down then? That's 2 months then .

No, my appointment is to see the consultant in march, you know, after I have gone through my history for the millionth time with some SHO I will never see again..... That pump you and Redb have is gone BTW :sarcasm: I asked if I contacted her directly, or wrote to her, emailed my position which my last contact was going to advocate anyway, then would that help?? But apparently NO
Just really fucking depressed.

It shouldn't be this hard to get something that may make a big change to MY LIFE (after a weekend of shite bs's and a few real unexplained lows I was really on-board to try this last thing..) even if they don't care or think its okay for me to wait. Why should I have to wait ffs????

Its fucking typical really, just when I decided to be a bit more pro-active..
