Hi all
My sister is supposed to be going to France on Friday but her passport is out of date :stupid:
She rang passport office in Dublin to see about getting it done tomorrow if she waited up there, but they said only if there is a medical emergency..
I know my brother got one done in a few hours but that was 2 years ago...
Anyone know if it can be done? Should she chance going to Q up in passport office?
Tia

Hi Pegasus

I'm pretty sure you can. My cousin went looking for her passport 2 days before they had to leave and couldn't find it. We had to go to the Garda Station in Cork the following day and a guy came from the passport office to do an emergency one for her there. I can't rem how long it was for but I do know it cost extra, but she did get sorted. It's a few years ago now but i'm sure they still do it.

Hope this helps

No, you can't, unless you have some sort of special connection or extremely extremely extenuating circumstances and someone obliges you.

It's 3 days minimum and at their discretion to let you avail of that option too.

Quote:
A. Passport applications lodged in Ireland can now be prioritised on the basis of travel dates. Applicants should make contact with the Passport Service and produce proof of travel to avail of this service. An additional fee may apply. It should be noted that except in the case of travel in respect of urgent humanitarian needs, the fastest time applications can be processed is currently three working days.

Quote:
Payable, upon proof of urgent travel, for passports required to be issued within five days following application.  This fee is in addition to the appropriate passport fee as set out above.

Please note that this is not an 'on demand' service and applications will take a minimum of three days to process.

It's still worth a try, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Denzo is right it is a 3 day minimum wait for one unless there is highly unusual circumstances. Realising your passport is out of date for a holiday isnt.

If she went first thing in the morning then maybe tomorrow (Wed) would be counted as Day 1 and she could pick it up on Day 3 (Friday) before she travels. But I'm not sure. Last year I brought mine in on the Monday and it was ready for me to pick up on the Thursday before I flew out but that was 4 days inclusive. God, what a pain, sorry.

What was wrong with his passport?

This isn't like a reissue, it's an expired passport so she needs a whole new one, so unless someone feels desperately sorry for her in there (which I doubt as at the end of the day it's her own fault not checking her travel documents are in date before booking her holiday) or she knows someone I say she'll be waiting, but you never know, she could find a softy behind the desk who'll help her.

As a matter of interest, what was wrong with his passport? And did he know anyone in the PPO to get it done quickly?
Did he receive a temp passport or a full 10 year one?

If she says it is lost, she will have to prove who she is. Along with her birth cert, she would also need other photographic ID and two bills in her name. All this along with the completed form, including the loss of passport section and 4 photos. And they still wont issue it that day, it will still be the 3 days. It is high season for passport applications right now, so its extremely rare for the rules to be bended.

Huh! Interesting indeed. I am not getting at you by the way, just wondering how he managed that one.
