Please, please remember the danger of water.
DH jumped in to a lake today to rescue a child. We had noticed him earlier but assumed that his parents/grandparents were watching. He had a net and was standing on a harbour wall trying to fish. DH and I reckon he was probbly 6 if that. Next thing someone screamed - he had fallen in (I think they thought he was ours.) No parents around, DH jumped in as he was face down in the water. He got him out as the child was crying and saying he couldn't swim. His mother finally arrived screaming and crying and took him away, thanking DH.
2 weeks ago, a man drowned in this area.
Please if you are in an area with water, stay with your children and watch them. There was so nearly a tragedy today.

well done to your husband , ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,where were his parents how can any one leave children beside water like this,
I always find this type of stuff so disturbing , how can you just walk off and leave a 6 year old alone like this with out supervision.

You are so right. Water poses a danger for children who can swim too. The shock of falling in sends all the swimming lessons out the window.

Well done to your DH, a hero.

Good on your dh, that family were extremely lucky that your dh saw him in the water, another few seconds and he could have been gone, it really doesn't take long.

Our local festival runs a crab fishing competition but the participants need to wear life jackets which is great.

A life jacket on that boy today would have made him a hell of a lot more visible and safer.

I know of quite a few anglers who have been washed away by freak waves and winds and if they all wore life jackets they would probably have been fine.
