My DD is 7 months and such a delight - she is doing all the things that, according to the experts, she is supposed to be doing when it comes to holding things, passing from one hand to the other, she has been saying "dadadadadad", "mamamamama", and "bababababa" for a while now, along with rolling over and pushing up on her hands then lifting her bum up and wiggling around as if she wants to move forward.

However, i have heard that most babies at her age should be sitting unsupported and she isn't. I have been sitting her up and seeing how strong she is in that department and she just doesn't seem interested and is always pushing backwards so she can go back down again and roll over. She can sit in the 'tripod' position for a minute but leans quite far forward and gets very irritated, quickly!

Should I be worried that she isn't sitting yet? I don't want to stress about this because I want her to do everything at her own pace, but I keep thinking that maybe I'm not doing something to help her?

Honestly theres nothing you can do to help her. they all develop at different rates. It sounds to me likes shes doing brilliantly

A friend's little guy was like this at about 7 months and it was driving her mad! She borrowed a Bumbo and sat him in that and within a week or two he was sitting. Now, it was probably just coincidence and he would have started sitting up then anyway, but she felt that the Bumbo gave him a taste for sitting and encouraged him to do it himself.

I've actually got a bumbo for her but don't think i've been putting her in it enough - but will make sure to put her in for a bit everyday!

It's good to know others go thru this too, and I know i must enjoy every moment and not worry about silly things - she will do everything in her own time :inlove:

thanks!!

Thanks so much everyone! Really helps to have others who go thru the same stuff :)

i have really stopped stressing so much and have just been supporting her when she sits so she can play in that position, and then today, when we were with a friend and her DD, my DD sat unsupported... for a few seconds, but i was just so proud  hee hee!!
