DD is 13mths and a great baba - we've been so lucky....

She goes down around 8.30pm - no problem, self settles. She used to sleep until about 8am and wake up happy and gabbing for about half an hour in her cot. For about a week or more now, she wakes at 7am or earlier - unhappy, whinging , trying to settle herself again and not able to. Once she gets up, she's fine after about 5 mins but then tired and cranky again very quickly and back in bed for her nap by 10am. I think it's just the brighter mornings - and she is finding it hard to go back to sleep if she wakes. 7am start doesn't bother me too much, but I know she doesn't want to be awake.

She's not hungry, cos she doesn't look for food straight away and eats well during the day.
We have a blackout blind on her window and curtains - but to be honest, the blind is not great so room is bright, might try to line the curtains with blackout as well.
She did cut 2 teeth recently and has never had too much trouble with teeth - she has 9 altogether so far. I have given her a spoon of nurofen the odd night going to bed but it wouldn't and doesn't make a difference to her in the morning.

not really sure what else could be bothering her - or what I can do to help her? Maybe I just need to get her to bed earlier to make up for it.......

Try an earlier bedtime for a few days - 8pm and if she still sleeps til 7am then I'd stick with it. Maybe even a 7:30 bedtime would work ... and be useful to you too!

I find with my 2 the earlier they go to bed (ds1 - 7.30pm. ds2 7pm) they sleep longer in the mornings. It could be a phase shes going through. I do remember ds1 going through something similar about that age.

I found with DD1 that if I put a blanket over the roller blinds (under the black out blind and blackout curtain - I took no chances!) and really blacked out all light (including light from the landing window), she'd sleep much better... I do the same with DD2, but as of yet, she's yet to wake up in her own room so don't know if that would work. :lookround:

As the OPs said, I do find that the earlier DD1 went down, the better she would sleep.

She's exhausted today - after an afternoon's play with 2 other kids and her not liking the idea of sharing things !!!
So she's had her dinner half an hour earlier and will have her in bed by 8 latest ( with a blanket on her window !!!)....and see how it goes , thanks for the suggestions.

(Cos I kinda lied when I said that I don't mind the 7am wakeups - would much prefer the 8am to come back :sleepy: )

So she was in bed by 8pm, asleep no problem, blanket on her window made it much darker.
And woke at 6.20am very unhappy and un-settled - but trying to settle herself and not really wanting to wake-up...
wouldn't mind so much if she woke happy and did her usual gabbing to her dolly for half an hour....but something is bothering her....MIL thinks maybe she is dreaming...once she is up she is fine but she is wrecked here again now and will be back in bed soon....poor pet....
any more ideas ?

I've no other ideas or advice to offer but as I said I tried absolutley everything with ds1 at that age & no matter what I done he was an early bird. 5.30am some mornings. Its very tough going.

is there something waking her? like the immersion clicking on or an alarm ringing somewhere?
is her nappy full and uncomfortable?

Thanks Emms - I could adapt to the early mornings if needed, did it before when she had a previous phase of early waking and just made sure I was in bed early too. But I just don't like that she's waking so un-happy and not wanting to be awake.

Kangaroo - house is quiet at that time, can't think of anything that would wake her. MIL said maybe birds on the roof - dunno. Nappy is always heavy in morning, no more than usual these mornings, unless it bothers now and didn't before.

My other thought is that maybe she is too warm these night so I've taken away a layer and she is in bed since 8pm.

if the nappy is very full in the mornings it might be worth putting a bigger more absorbent one on her at night time?

Thanks Kangaroo - worth considering. She's in Pampers Baby Dry 4+ at night, in LIDL nappies during the day but they don't keep her dry at night. Would I try the next size up on Pampers - or a different brand?

i find the active fit pampers better than the baby dry ones for some reason.

well she slept 8pm to 7am - and woke up gabbing and content.....so maybe it was a phase , or maybe she was too warm and it took me a while to cop-on !!! Fingers crossed for the next few days......
DH was on night-shift this week , coming in at 7am so would get her up and give her breakfast........
Back to my turn now so hope we don't see too many more 6ams !!
