Oh, you are all doing so well :bigups: Am so jealous (but thrilled for you all at the same time!). Am still not allowed to (well, can't actually!) run and my GP has referred me to an orthopedic surgeon for my knees. Don't like that one bit but suppose he can find out what the problem is. Knees are actually doing ok (feel much much better) but the swelling isn't going down (main issue now). Am managing some fast walking but it's just not quite the same!

Keep it up girls, you are all doing brilliantly

So how's the running going now everyone? MaryB are you still going out? I'm trying to get to 10k running constantly by the mini marathon fingers crossed. I did a quick 3k last night (with a cold) in 17 mins, I was chuffed, the last time I did that route it took over 20. My 4k time is coming down too, when I get that to 22 mins (I'm at just over 24 atm) I'm going to try for 5k in under 30mins. And continue adding 1k each week til I get to 10k in a decent time.

I've been very lazy. Was sick last week so took a break. I've got to 25 mins running without stopping but that seems to be as far as I can go. Think I'll try doing 2x15 min runs with a couple of minutes walking in between and see how that goes.
Asco, best of luck with the 10K. Have you registered as a runner or walker for the mini marathon? I've not done it before but some people were saying if you're registered as a walker it's next to impossible to run for the first while.

I couldn't register as a runner because you have to have a recorded time from one of the last 2 mini marathons and I've never done one before. I'm doing another 5k race in 2 weeks and then there is the run Kildare 10k the week after, I haven't registered for it yet but seriously thinking about it.

I have a 7.5k mapped out here that I'm going to try next weekend, if I can do it I will register for that 10k.

Hi Girls

I wonder if you would have any advise for me..
I started the c25k a few weeks ago but i'm finding it really hard to move on each week and its taking me nearly two weeks to do each stage as i have rheumatism and my knees are really painful. I have Asics gel runners and i make sure i walk the full five mins before and after..

I know there's loads of you doing so well on this and when i'm out i really enjoy it and really want to progress each week and get fit but the pain is really holding me back, does anyone have anything i can try?

Thanks so much

Running is hard enough on your knees but with rheumatism....sounds very painful indeed.

What surface do you run on? Grass is the best apparently. Concrete the worst.

I banjaxed my knees when I started this and haven't been able to run since. I know my issue is very different but went to physio today and he said it prob happened from the constant changing from walking to running to walking (damaged my tendons & ligaments). It puts a lot of pressure on your knees, that sudden change from running to walking. He suggested if/when I run again to run at a much slower pace for much longer and to allow my body to get into a rhythm before stopping for a rest i.e. walking! and run on grass too!

I am not sure if I will run again but in the meantime am doing really brisk walking instead which is much easier on the aul knees!

Can I join in, started the NHS one two weeks ago, but just today got the full week one done. Shin splints have been horrible and bunions driving me mad. I feel like I'm getting fit enough to do the running but my old legs and feet are letting me down. DH just gave me money for new trainers so hopefully that will help, going to go to Amphibian King in Bray for trainers anyone been there, is it worth it? Think I'm going to have to take it really slowly and do each week over two weeks iykwim. Any advice welcome, Tracy.

Hows everyone getting on? I'm still running but didn't run over the last 2 weeks of April when the kids were off school - just never managed it, didn't try hard enough really! :D

Have been out since but really noticed the difference in running after 2 weeks off - have still not managed a 5km since. I have done a few 4km or 4.5kms and it has taken me all I've got to do that. Even had to stop one day for a minute or two and start again and I never, ever stopped before mid run.

Anyway getting back into it now so hopefully back running 5kms next week. The weather is getting very mild too so I'm finding it hard to work out what to wear. I'm always too hot.

I did 7k last night, I'm feeling it this morning, the last few runs have been short 3 or 4k's with the girls so at a slower pace, it took 50 mins which is just over 7 mins per km, I'll try it again tomorrow morning and then I have a 5k race on Sunday.
I'm definitely enjoying it more than I was. I'm finding the 4k easy enough.

Hi girls, mind if I join ye? I did Wk 1 day 3 today.Im a total beginner.I used to be very fit but have put on 2 stone over the last 3 years or so:( I'm in a gym as its next door to work and I prefer to go straight there after work before collecting the kids from their minder. That way I don't get home, get comfy and then not get out again! I like the app I'm using but I just saw today that it's only free until week 3 day 1.then I have to pay to upgrade. Is there a free one that's actually free??
Dd was sick on tues so I didn't go to the gym but I went out on the footpaths that night and I found it horrendous!! I thought id collapse! It's so different from the treadmill!!
Question: I won't be able to go again until Mon-that's 3 days of doing nothing-is that too much rest??

The ideal is one rest day and no more than 2 rest days. I think you should be ok so early in the programme but it is ok to repeat weeks if you feel you need to. Good luck, it is so worth it :-)
Are you on android or and iPhone, there are lots of different apps that are free til the end.

Hi all.
I started back into this again yesterday. I had been doing some free running after Xmas but I ended up doing too much and got injured, so I'm back at the very start again and am going to take it slow! Day one yesterday was fine I found it ok. I didn't bring any water with me as previously when I was running I'd have water and I found I was getting alot of stitches, maybe if was a pure coincidence but yesterday no water and no stitches!!
I am using the NHS podcasts they are free. I just downloaded them to the iPod on my iPhone, hope that helps someone.

Anyways I'm off today to get some new runners. I had new balance and find them fairly good. I'll prob stick with them.
Anyone else starting along with me??
