I'll be 37 weeks on Friday and at my scan last Friday (36wks) they said that my fluid levels were fine. They havent given me any kind of indication of weight so I might ask this Friday and see what they think. At around 32 or 33 weeks they were telling me baby was measuring big and I was looking at a 9lber! My DS was 8lbs 13ozs but he was 11 days over...They told me all along through that pregnancy that I would have a small baby because I am naturally small, then out he came lol :)

Hi all,
I'm going to join ye if thats alright.
I have gd and I'm on my second week of doing my bloods and I'm 27w+1d.
I have to test 7 times a day, before breakfast 2hrs after, before lunch 2hrs after, before dinner 2 hrs after and before I go to bed. I had to set a timer to remind me as I for got a few times.
I've read back on the pages and must say ye all offer alot of great advice.
After my first week most of my levels were ok but they weren't happy with my morning readings so I have to take glucophage after my evening meal, was anyone else put on this?
Trying my best to stick to things but did have a square of chocolate last night about 2 hours before I had to test so was hoping it wouldn't affect my bed time reading but it did and sent it up to 7.8 :bomb: ,so I won't be doing that again.
Haven't been doing any excercise even though I keep saying I must go for a walk but never get around to it. For those of you that do excercise do you find it really helps your results or just makes a slight difference.

Will try and check in here on a daily basis and I'd love the support as I still feel so clueless about it all.

Hope ye are all doing well.

been meaning to post here to say that I had my DD2 on 30th March was induced at 38 + 1 mainly due to the GD. She was tiny only 6lbs 5.5 ounces but she had been measuring normal during pregnancy. She is great and I'm delighted not to be testing anymore or injecting even though I was only on insulin from week 35.

Littlevoice I definitely found that if I did any form of exercise that my blood levels were a lot lower even after eating the same food. We moved house the week I was put on insulin and sugar testing so my form of exercise was moving bits and pieces and putting stuff away etc. When I did nap after eating and did nothing my levels went very high. Also stress of getting kids ready in morning affected my sugar reading. It really is trial and error.

Best of luck with it.

Morning readings were my hardest to control too, I tried not eating too close to bedtime and sometimes it worked. As I walked my DD1 down to crèche most mornings, the walk helped bring the morning reading down before breakfast. I also tried walking between meals not too easy when over 30 weeks pregnant!
Wonder why you got a two hour window, I had to test one hour after

Hi all,
Well I was back at the hospital yesterday and all is fine except my readings after my dinner. I have to increase my dosage of glucophage to twice a day and the doctor is hoping that this will help my night time readings. I did actually manage to go out a slow walk yesterday evening. Started at an ok pace(for me) and half way round the park my poor dh thought he was going to have to carry me home,I'd say anyone who saw me didn't know what to make of my waddle.

Congrats to you whacky woman.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Girls I'm off to read this thread from page 1. Had scan yesterday 31+4 and she said there was a lot of fluid and baby had good layer of fat on tummy so when I saw Obs he is sending me for GTT on Fri. I am anxious about it and my gut is it will come back high.

Shopaholic, I went through the same thing a couple of weeks ago as my consultant noted that the baby's tummy seemed on the higher end of the scale size wise. My test came back with no problems. However, during the week that I was in doubt about it, I decided to cut out sweet stuff, and basically follow the healthy eating regieme that is detailed on here, and that I'd been following a year ago anyway in order to increase my energy levels and become healthier and fitter. Even when my test came back negative, I decided to stick to the healthy eating. I feel so much better. My mood is much better as I'm not relying on a sweet pick-me-up and I generally have more energy and feel healthier. Good luck with your test.

This happened to me at the beginning of the year...GTT came back fine but they confirmed I had polyhydramnios (condition of excess waters) my boy was born 11lb 1oz in March and he is perfect in every way just a very big baby. Best of luck with it. If you have any questions feel free to PM.

Thanks Florie and Gemam. I'm a bit all over the place with it today. He was being called over to the Hospital so my appt with him was rushed. He said baby size wasn't a big issue because I'm having a CS anyway. I think he said scan calculated 5lbs 9 @ 31+4. In early pregnancy he said he will scan regularly towards the end to keep an eye on baby's weight because my babies got smaller, Ds1 was 8:10 and Ds3 was 6:10. The Sonographer warned me during scan that he would send me for testing. Then he mentioned he would organise injections for baby. I suppose I'm just sorry not to have questioned him more but I'm back in 2 weeks so I'll have them ready for him then.

I also had polyhydramnios on DD1 and passed the GCT, I reckon though if I had been given a GTT at the levels that are there now, I would have failed it tbh
My DD1 was only 6lb13oz and I had been told to expect a 10lber

Thanks for feedback girls. had GTT on Friday and got a call today from Dietician to say levels were elevated. I was out and about so didn't get into details. I have an appointment tomorrow to see her followed by Diabetic Liasion Nurse so will know more then. I have been following the diet outlined earlier in the thread so I presume that is what will officially be in store for me from tomorrow. Don't know what will happen with the nurse though. Quite nervous about the whole thing.

If you have to check the blood sugar levels thats what the nurse will help you with, show you etc...

Back again!

Well they sent me off for a week checking levels 7 times per day. My fasting level was fine but levels were elevated on 2 and still on third bloods so I was retaining the sugar so therein lies my problem.

I am back next week to see Nurse and Consultant so will follow plan to the letter and see how I go. Really trying to avoid insulin.

Can I ask what your experiences were regarding baby after delivery. I was having a CS anyway but she mentioned SCBU yesterday to monitor baby's levels for a day or two so wondered how you guys got on?

Thanks again

S

In my case DD2 was bought off for a blood sugar test and was back very quickly, she was fine.

Shopaholic, DD was given a heel prick test to check her blood sugar before her first feed then again the second day just to check her levels. All was fine so no SCBU for us.

They never mentioned me having it the whole time I was there and I sat eating jelly sweets half the time :-)

Shopaholic I didn't have GD but DS had to have blood sugars done every 3 hours for the first 24 hours because he was a very big baby. These were done at the nurses station and they had him back to me within 5 mins each time. The baby next to me also had to have them done as she was a very low birth weight and after her second they had to take her to the unit until they got them back under control so I think it just depends on what the readings are. Best of luck with it.

Check the label on the crisps and the content of carbs, I think Tayto Snax was the only one I chanced and blood sugars level stayed okay, but I only ever had them around lunchtime when the levels were at the best.
