Nope, I'm not diabetic but finding my sugar is swinging up and down like a yoyo. Its quite frightening. Anyone else?

I had borderline gestational diabetes and the nurse asked me was I eating a lot of bread and carbs. I was craving bread, potatoes, chips etc and that was driving mine up. Are you craving any of those?

Try to eat good long acting carbs, and cut back on the fruit juice/fruit and sweet stuff.
If you do that for a few days and drink plenty of water it might calm down for you.

Also if you are feeling like you need to eat then try combining carbs with protein as that will last you longer.

So far starlet, its all normal. I had one blood test last week again so maybe something will show up.

Yes, I crave carbs. Awful bad ones and I do feel worse after but I try combine it with meat to stabilise it. Its still off the scale and tbh, I just hope something comes up this time in the bloods as this doesn't feel normal.

Cheers for the tips. Hope it stops soon.

I know how you feel, I have gestational diabetes, got it at 24 wks with dd and 12 weeks this time round, though this time hasnt been as bad because from the start i watched my diet. Last time i thought i had a great diet and always felt tired, dizzy, headachy and just plain horrible. Dietician put me on diabetic diet to manage blood sugar levels. It made such a difference! I would have bran flakes or porridge for early breakies, wholemeal toast at 10/11, wholemeal pitta and hoummous or rasher sambos on brown bread, scrambled eggs or chicken salad for lunch, ryvita and dairylea for snack, dinner was meat and green veg only, tiny portion of carbs, and dessert would be 10 strawberries and cream, and something before. Sounds like a lot but it was to make sure that you never went hungry and kept blood sugars normal, it was hard at the start but was no problem by the end of pregnancy. I find that water is great aswell for keeping blood sugars level. All I can say is try watch your diet and water intake and maybe get booked in for a GTT for 18-20 weeks(im not sure if they do it earlier), you could probably see a dietitian before then though to help. It might not be gestation diabetes, and your just boarderline with your sugars, but trust me the diet helps so much, you will feel so much better! I ate like a horse and when i gave birth i was 2 stone lighter than i was getting pregnant, have PCOS so always struggled with my weight, but not when i was pregnant, it fell off me.

Hope you feel better, make sure to tell your doc how you have been feeling. I know my gp did the GTT for me early in pregnancy but nothing showed up until hospital did it at 24 weeks, but i suffered for weeks prior to that. hth

That's a great diet Liriel. Can I ask if you had diet drinks of any kind?

Im not a great lover of diet drinks, i think i was able to have sugar free squash and one can of diet coke a day just because i was told that the caffeine can dehydrate you and the sugary taste can make you want something else sugary. Forgot to say you can have yogurts aswell and sauces, but you have to make sure that there is 2.5g of sugar per 100g or less. I think the 0% yogurts by yoplait were fine to have, they gave us them in hospital for a snack. I was told not to worry about calories, just the types of food your having, it was great having an excuse to get dh to make me rasher and egg sambos before bed or toasted cheese sambos without the guilt! I also got whole meal tortillas cut them into triangles, sprinkled with oil and paprika and cooked for 20 mins til crispy and would dip with sour cream..yum! You find ways to treat yourself when you need a fix

You are making this sound very tempting. Its reminds me of a GI diet without the calorie counting. I'll give it a go as I love most of that stuff. Kissing goodbye to the chocolate and ice cream won't be a big deal (she says now!!).

Cheers for the help.

Trust me, if you start to feel better you will want to keep it up. And sure whats stopping you having a bit of dark choc or a scoop of icecream in the evening if you feel your sugar levels are ok. Its worse in the morning and day time for me, but by 9pm i felt i was able to have a nice cup of tea and a nice choc, just made sure that they were butlers or something so i felt very decadent!

Best of luck
