Right, it is time to put the fantasy back into the fantasy league!
I have been studying form, ladies, and this is my (fantasy) prediction
In the first of the Quarter Finals, Ireland's Tommy Bowe will score four tries (20 points for me), with three assists credited to Paul O'Connell (9 more points for me). Instantly dubbed the darling duo down under, Bowe and O'Connell also collaborated on O'Connell's two stunning tries (10 points for me) with Bowe assiting on both (6 more points). Sadly, none of the tries were converted (meanning no one who had ROG can pull ahead of me). Unsurprisingly, Bowe was named man of the match for the second time in this world cup (5 points) The only score for Wales was a try from Scott Williams (5 more points). Rhys Priestland failed to convert this or any of his other kicking efforts, apprently struggling with the famously windy conditions in Wellington, and winning only two points for those who had him as kicker, as he was subbed off before the end. Asked how Wales, with very similar weather to Ireland, could have fared so much worse in the conditions, Priestland said that there was a never-before- experienced force in the ground, which he dubbed the LansdEden effect, doubtlessly referring to the pathway from Lansdowne Road to Eden Park, where Ireland will next week be hot favourites in the semi final.
Observers could scarcely believe that the second Wellington Quarter Final, between Australia and South Africa, could be any more exciting, but it certainly featured some equally bizarre and unpredictable happenings, with Adam Ashley Cooper scoring not only three tries (15 points) but two drop goals (2 points) and also achieving two assists (6 points) with the inevitable man of the match laurels to follow (+5). Assisting on all of A-Cooper's tries was Will Genia (9 points) who also displayed some faultless kicking, putting three drop goals (+3) over the bar under heavy pressure from the Springboks. Quade Cooper, on the other hand, seemed overwhelmed by the occasion and was taken off after ten minutes to be replaced by a kicker that no one important had on their fantasy league team at all. Dan Vickerman, in his 57th career test, scored the first try of his international career (why the hell did I ever put him on my team +5 points) and even managed to finish the whole game, for once. South Afrrica fought hard, with Heinrich Brussow getting over for a try (+5), and also assisting (+3) on a fine touch down from Pierre Spies (+5). Morné Steyn tragically twisted his ankle in the first five minutes and scored nothing. Fourie du Preez was sent off (losing 2 points for everyone who had them as their kicker). South Africa panicked and subbed off all their big names, and all their remaining scores were made by people no one had ever even heard of. Most of Australia's stars (except AAC and WG) picked up injuries in their one point win over South Africa, leaving them severely weakened as they face the semis.
