DD is 5 days old, ive had feck all sleep, she seems to have days and nights mixed up. PHN was here yesterday (and not a very nice individual) and I mentioned that DD poos 4-5 times a day, quite loose and mustard coloured mostly and she told me i'd want to watch for diahorrea, so now im freaked. She's sleeping all day too only waking for feeds now i know in my heart this is normal but im over analysing every little thing now.

The sleep and the poop are normal ...aren't they? :stupid:

i would say that's entirely normal, mustard yellow poos are standard for the first weeks.

yes sleeping all day normal too, once you are getting the feeds in and not letting her miss any (which I'm sure you aren't) she'll be fine.

My PHN wasn't very nice either btw ;) .

Congratulations on your new baby girl.

Sounds absolutely normal to me. Your PHN doesn't sound very helpful or reassuring to a new mum - neither was mine.

You are doing fine. You've got mammy instincts now and they are more effective than anything else!!

Enjoy her

First off - Congratulations. I must have missed the notice about the new arrival, so I'm only seeing it now.

Back to regular programming now - it's completely normal.

You need to pop your new little one in a buggy/pram and sit out in the garden and enjoy both the baby and the weather and not be worrying about diahorrea.

You're breastfeeding aren't you L?

Well then her poo's are perfectly normal at 5 days for a breastfed baby. As for her sleep. She is only brand new...she's not gonna have it down pat right away even though we'd like them too. I know you are prob wrecked hun but just snooze with her if and when you can especially now until the others are on their summer hols when you won't be able too.

xx

The sleep bit is entirely normal, its very common for new babies to sleep all day and be awake all night, my own dd was like that for the first 3 weeks :sleepy: . My PHN called it day/night confusion.

What kind of a phn is not aware what newborn poo is supposed to look like? Honestly I would be so p**d off about that! It sounds perfectly normal to me!

If it's coming out then it must have gotten in somehow.

Quite reassuring, especially if you're breastfeeding, to see plenty wet and dirty nappies.

Sounds like you know exactly what you're doing but are just having a small wobble.

Nope L isn't bf'ing. I am giving ds3 bottles and it's completely normal to have loads of poos as is the sleeping all the time, think C was 2/3 weeks when he started waking up a bit more and then i was thinking fondly back to the all day sleeps! Around the same time though he started getting a 5 hr straight sleep at night so i suppose that balanced it out a bit.

Not sure about breastfed babies, but mine were formula fed and the majority of nappies were very loose pops! After a few weeks they settle and become more regular, so don't worry about that.
Also, on the sleep front, she's not even a week old, give her a chance. With time, in my case about a month, day and night were reversed as baby started to stay awake and take in the surroundings a bit longer during the day.
Get urself a nice cold lemonade (I wound say glass of vino , but bit a bit early!) and relax in the good weather. Get a fly screen for ur buggy if u can , use that and keep baby well in the shade. Or even inside the door with a monitor.

Both mine were formula fed and had mustard-coloured and textured poos. DS still does. Perfectly normal!

And the sleep thing is normal too, DS was in hospital till 4 weeks and when he left he was still only awake for feeds, he slept the rest of the time. DD used to sleep all day and be awake all night. Just grab what sleep you can and don't be worrying!

And definitely get yourself outdoors, it'll make you feel so much better.

Brerast fed babies poos are meant to be yellow loose stools the consicistancy of scrambled eggs , another phn who need to go talk to a lactation specalist , the stools can be this way for months , bf babies poo lots or little some only few times a week some 5 8 times a day all is normal ,they dont suffer from constipation , lots means fab milk supply .

Re the tiredness this is so normal you have a tiney tiny 5 day old bf baby your body is making milk , your hormones are raging , its hot and sticky and you just gave birth ,are still loosing blood .Iron levels might dip too . it all normal .I bet your trying to do it all all the house work ,all the tidy up ,dinners , bf and taking care of baby . well today and for the next few days just stop ,breath , buy salad and cold meat , and some nice treats ,and as others said go out with baby into the sun in the shade , snooze , sleep feed . go back in and do the same inside too .

In times gone by they had the right idea moms had a laying in peroid , to eat ,feed ,rest and recover . it is said it takes a village to rear a child , so leave all unessary tasks to some one else and enjoy your baby moon . put a sighn up on the door mom and baby resting . and switch off .

Hope you have a lovely babymoonxx

Mustard loose poos are definitely standard with breastfeeding.

Nope, was doing both, am just bottle feeding now. She only had one poopy nappy today and was awake a little more. She's due to feed in a half hour and then we're off to bed, hoping for a few hours. DH has been wonderful doing all cooking, laundry, cleaning and looking after the boys, so i just have to concentrate on myself and Eve. My iron is very low...6.2 and physically i wouldnt be in great shape, i think this is making me wobble and doubt myself, i had PND quite bad after DS2 so am terrified of it coming back... so far so good. More sleep will defo sort me out. Its so nice to have all you guys for the kind reassurance...im so so missing my Mum since Eve arrived...she was always great to talk me down...so again...thank you all xx
