Hi all,
We are planning a trip to the Zoo shortly. What is the story there with car parking? Is there a daily rate?

We are thinking of staying in a hotel the night before. Has anyone any recommendations for nearby hotels? I rang the Ashling hotel but the family room is a bit pricey,Eur163 with Eur8 to park the car there all day. Whereas if we stay out a bit like Newlands Cross we get the same room for Eur88.

Any tips greatly appreciated.
Thanks from a Zoo novice :D

Well if you stay at Newlands cross you get the bus in or you could go to the Luas and get that in and the zoo is only a short walk from the Luas stop at Hueston Station.

If you do drive in the parking is free in the Pheonix park but depending on what day you are going you may not get parking near to the zoo. It could be a distance away.

The car park near the zoo is free, you can also park all along the main road through the park for free.

The Ashling hotel is the same distance from the entrance to the park as Heuston station is which is on the red luas line so you could easily stay out at newlands cross and luas it in.
Then it's a 10-15 min walk to the zoo from there. If you're driving though you have loads of hotel options.

Blanch shopping centre has the crowne Plaza hotel and Liffey valley has the Clarion.
At least you have the option of cinemas or other entertainment/restaurants too. Plus some shopping

We usually park along the main road in the Phoenix Park. If there's a lot of cars and you've 2 adults - get dropped near the entrance and get the driver to go off and park. Similarly on the way out - wait with the children near the zoo and get the driver to walk off to the car and pick you up. There's a sort of set-down area on the main road at the zoo. This saves moaning from everyone at the long walk back to the car!

I'd stay a bit further out of the city too - to take in some shopping centres!!

Bewelys is near Newlands Cross as well and the Ibis. Parking is no bother at the zoo. Plenty of space.

If you're after cheap and cheerful, there's always the Travelodge in Castleknock.
