Dh and I were looking at Tayto park as an outing tomorrow, but it's hard to get a sense of it from the website. Is it worth 40e?

I'd say no Bookworm, but I've only been once.

What about Rathbeggan lakes? A cheaper option and if you get sunshine, it's a fab day out.

Have to agree - Tayto park is only good if you buy the annual pass, 40 euro for a single visit is too much for what it is in my opinion.

We enjoyed it, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to go back.

It has a couple of big playgrounds, you can tour the crisp factory, a pretty decent little zoo, and some adventure type activities (I think these cost extra). The animals were great, but a day at the zoo is better.

I agree too Bookworm. If your kids were a bit older it's worth it but not for your two. Rathbeggan Lakes is a great spot. They'd have more fun there.

Yeah, I have to agree that older kids seem to get more out of it than younger kids.
We went once and the highlight for DD (4.5yo) was getting a free packet of crisps leaving! :stern:
The zoo part of it is really small too.

I meant to come back and update. We wound up going to Rathbeggan on Monday as between one thing and another, we never got there last weekend. The bouncy castles etc were therefore closed, but it was a lovely day. The pedal boats were such fun, cute albeit small pet farm, loads of picnic benches, loads of space to run, the kids had a ball. Perfect for their age.

Hi Bookworm, do your little ones like water? The Funtasia Waterpark is excellent and pretty good value  and much handier for you than Tayto Park x

Hi we went to Rathbeggen lakes yesterday and spent 4 hours there. It cost's 2 euro each apart from dd who was free and then we paid 4 euro for the boats,4 euro for another water roller thing and 4 euro for the bouncing castles. Ds loved it and dd loved the few animals. Will definitively be going again, staff were all lovely.

Ds is going to Tayto park with his school tour so thought it would be a waste to go.

Also bring a picnic.

We went to Tayto park yesterday & the kid's (6 & 11 yrs) had a great time.We were there for a few hours & I thought it was well worth €40.There were 2 new rides going in when we were there,a big giant slide (that was to be open today)& a giant zip line ride for older kids.Loads of different animals to see as well.

I am another one who found Tayto Park a rip off. Didn't like the fact that you had to pay extra for a go on some of the activities. Glad I didn't have older kids with me, to bump up the cost even further. Wasn't impressed with their animal enclosures, much prefer the zoo and would rather spend my money there. To me, it is overpriced and on the day we went it was over crowded. DaisyMay

I think tayto park is a complete rip off, there is plenty of free play areas to go for very young kids. We paid 36e last year and dd was too young for the bigger stuff but even still you have to pay to go on the bigger things. Wouldn't be in a rush back and don't 40e is worth it for 2 kids.

Oh yes, its all for under 12's.

I really think paying 12 euro a head for somewhere it would want to be pretty amazing tbh and much better than say a visit to the Zoo or movies.
