So cute. They built a nest last weekend and mammy is there since incubating two eggs. Daddy shows his face now and again and chases off the odd magpie. I looked it up and apparently the incubation period is 21 days.

I can't stop looking out at it.

I have a pic and I will put it up later.

Mo

A pair of them hang out in our garden too, they are lovely. I didn't know what they were when I saw them first, had to look them up in the Derek Mooney book.

Hope both eggs and chicks will make it . Hope you haven't cats !

Im dying to show off me bird but it wont let me upload the pic. Could it be that there is too much detail in it? Like with all the branches and leaves? I just uploaded pics of a kids tracksuit no problem :(

Update. At least one egg has hatched as there was a hatched egg shell in the grass under the tree but we couldn't see anything. Yesterday mammy and daddy were in the nest together . They flew off and left them there for a while on their own. We could just about see a little fluffy thing moving around. I don't know how many there is.

It's so lovely, hope I get a proper look at the chick/s.

I just got congratulated by my bf to say I'm now a granny. I'm waaay to young to be a granny.

Aw that's lovely. We have a small garden but have had a few nests over the years. It's brilliant. It's hard to leave the nest alone and not peek, but you have to so the birds don't get scared off. Watch that magpie, they predate nests.

The pair of them did survive and we watched them every day to see what they were up to.Mammy wasnt there with them anymore, but she would drop in the odd time. Eventually they got out of the nest and were perched on a branch. Then they would move closer and closer to the outer branches of the tree. You could see them pretend flapping their wings getting ready to fly away. Then one day last week I came home from work only to find they were gone. They flew the nest :(

I am sad they are gone. I keep looking out to the empty nest hoping to see them again but no. They are gone. There was a pair in the garden earlier but I didnt get a good look at them as we frightened them away.

Its like life really isnt it, we spend so much time nurturing our babies and taking care of them and then one day they are gone.

I think I have a case of empty nest syndrome. :(

Just a little update. The nest is still there and the other day I noticed a mammy or mammy to be in the nest. I assume she is incubating eggs as she hasn't moved so it looks like there will be more baby birds very soon. Dh seems to think its the wrong time of year for eggs to be hatching. Do birds breed all year round or only at certain times?

Very early to have laid eggs, perhaps the mild Winter has confused them? I don't know much about birds but I think some types have a couple of broods each year, early Spring and late Spring/early Summer.

Cute that they are back but not great timing if we get a cold snap.

Off to research !
