I don't but DH tells a story that he was camping in Wexford and felt an earthquake, would that be the same one, the 80's sounds about the right time for his story :)

That would be it, I was in Wexford that night too! 1984, it was. 5.5, the ones this week were only 1.5 and 1.7

Both myself and DH slept through the whole thing.

Missed every night of the northern lights too as we kept falling asleep before they were visible. :bangin:

Well there aren't any ones that are caused by tectonic plates fault lines so you're not totally off the mark. There'd never be a 'big one' in Ireland.

I can recall reading about an earthquake in the 18th century (or maybe 18 something) that caused a tidal wave in the West of Ireland!

I heard that last night. It scared the life out of me but not because it was an earthquake! I thought o was a car coming up our lane, it was the exact same rumbling sound. It was about 1 and I was sure someone was dead. Dh away so I was here on my own. I was like a lunatic looking around the house for a car but nothing. I didn't even hear about it until halfway through the day so I put two and two together.

My poor DS asked if his cousins were dead when he heard myself and DH talking about it...
We are heading up there tomorrow but don't think it was felt in home place but it was recorded by the local secondary school.

That's a pity.. I'd love to see the Northern Lights.... only lights here are from street lamps...

The 'Earthquake' in the mid 1980's, was it in 1984? Was out in the Irish Sea, that's why many either don't remember or it or didn't feel it. I remember I was sleeping in the top bed of our bunk beds and it 'rocked'. I thought my sister was messing in the lower one.... she was still asleep... !!

Us too! Wonder if we're in for a very exciting weekend?!! (btw, any tips on stop-offs along the route? We're getting sick of the Four Seasons...)

Where are you heading from? we normally head for the M50, M1 and up through Monaghan and the north (coming from Naas)... My home place is only a few minutes from the border. We normally stop at a garage and have a 'picnic' in the car.. DS loves it. Coming back we normally stop for Sunday dinner... Theres a hotel in Castleblaney beside a lake which is nice but Ill have to get the name of it from DH. I go by bus a lot with DS because DH works weekends, this is the first weekend in over a year we are all going up together.. can't wait. Just hope we don't get shaken lol.

We always stop at Kellys in Ballygawley - child friendly and reasonable prices.

Oh you are! The Northern Lights are gonna be here for few weeks yet (gettin weaker and stronger till March). Garda have traffic alert out for visitors to "please watch the road when looking at Northern Lights" as there may be other traffic on road. Plus there are severe hail showers going on up here now!

Welcome to Donegal

Love the photo!
Oh yes I'd forgotten about Kellys, it's painted black and on the left isn't it? Is it before Ballygawley?

Dh stopped at a petrol station with a sit-down cafe last time... But he forget about the 3 females he's traveling with... The flippin' toilets were outside... We were so not impressed  I like the sound of the hotel near the lake, sounds nice!

Barnacles we take the same route, we're heading towards Carn... Anyone remember the old road via Slane and the queues to get across the bridge?!
