Just finished this - (it took all my effort to get through it) and thought i'd post a quick review.
I hated it.
It's a huge blockbuster of a novel and starts promisingly enough but I thought it soon deteriorated - i found it over-written (ie lots of detail but not much actually happening iykwim) and then story lines which seemed important were just dropped.
Add to that the fact that the main characters were all pretty unlikeable and that the whole book was unrelentingly grim - nothing positive ever seemed to happen to anyone - and it was tough going.
Interestingly my mum read another of his books 'freedom' and she hated it for almost exactly the same reasons as i've posted above.
So, no stars.
