A question for all you photography experts!

I have my Nikon D40 camera coming on 2 years. The battery life is starting to reduce each time it is charged. I guess I should have a spare one anyhow.
Is there much difference (apart from price) in buying generic versus the Nikon brand battery?
Also, is there anything I can do to the current battery to increase its charged life?

I've used the generic 'for Nikon' batteries for a number of years, no difference. Apparently a lot of them are made in the same factory using all the same materials

Thanks for that. How long should the battery have a good life for? It lasted great at the beginning. Only in the last few months (almost 2 years on) is it dying very early.

I bought some generic brand for my Canon slr about 3 yrs ago. Battery life is great - couldn't pinpoint how long exactly - and I can't tell when I'm using my Canon battery or the other brands from China on ebay!
