Hi

I am struggling to find books for my 14 yr old ds to read . He seems to be in between ages . He used to be an avid reader but the past year or so hardly read anything . Friggin xbox has to be curtailed .
Anyway , any recommendations for me ? I gave him the dan brown ones to try ( Angels and demons and davinci code ) , thought he would find them exciting - no . Bought him the new Sherlock book by Anthony Horowitz yesterday (14 euro), the fecker doesnt like it either . He doesn't like vampire books btw .
So , what to do ?!?

I know he has the Muchamore ones for definite .I might see are there more in the series .
I was wondering though what adult books I could encourage him to read . I think he needs to Push himself a bit more tbh .
I havent a clue what books guys like generally , that's the problem . I know what I like to read , not his cuP of tea apparently !

Another vote for the Hunger Games books here too. Has he read any Stephen King. DS1 used to read absolutely everything he could get his hands on but has become much fussier now. I find the library great as they have recommended reading lists per age.

Also, an oldie but goodie is the Adrian Mole series. DS1 read them about two years ago and loved them. I thought he might find them a bit too 'young' for them but no, he got a great laugh from them.

He might also like the Sherlock Holmes books.

Hi

DS1 is 14 and has also just started to read adult books, having read most of the books already mentioned (Not Adrian Mole though, that's a great idea, must see if he'd like that).

At the moment he's reading books by Clive Cussler, cant remember what they're called, they're all action/adventure type novels.

Harlan Coben has started writing for young adults - his newest book Shelter is for that age group - so your DS might enjoy that.

Also, iBoy by Kevin Brooks. It's for young adults and it does cover some adult themes (a bit like the Muchamore books). DS really enjoyed that one.

John Connolly has also written for kids - 'The Gates' and 'Hells Bells' - these are very funny, and not anything like the dark Charlie Parker adult novels he writes. These are probably aged at a slightly younger audience (12-ish) but are still a great read (I read them and enjoyed them!).

Another book he read and enjoyed (it was one of the kindle christmas bargains) was Department 19 by Will Hill.

Oh, and the Patrick Ness trilogy (Monsters of Men, The Ask and the Answer and The Knife of Never Letting Go) were absolutely loved by DS1 and DS2 (just gone 13).

Hope you can get him a book he'll enjoy. It's great to see boys with a nose in a book

Thumbs up from DS1 for the Patrick Ness books here too. I must try out the others mentioned in the previous post.
