One of my oldest friends is getting married next week, we are not going to the wedding as they're just having a small family affair, but I want to get something nice for them both. I can't spend more the 100 euro and I don't want to give them cash.

Would love some ideas as I'm feckin useless when it comes to presents of any sort.

TIA :D

How about a large cariacature of them both and get in in a nice frame? Or take a picture of them on their wedding day and get it done out then

I received a carved wooden coat of arms plaque as a gift from http://www.heraldiccraft.com. Loved it and have since given one as a gift. It's really good quality and is personalised with names and date of wedding.

Ok - you'll get a lot of ideas for things like crystal bowls or champagne flutes or whatever. If that's her thing, great.

I would be delighted to receive:

A really nice wooden salad bowl: http://www.giveirishcraft.com/products/ ... -bowl/1153

If you know her taste, a nice framed print or other work of art. Etsy is great for this. But I'd only do it if you felt confident that you would choose something she likes. I got my sister a pastel based on photo of her, her children, and her new DH. Here's the artist: http://www.etsy.com/shop/tushtush?ref=seller_info You have to contact her to request a custom item.

Expensive linen is a gorgeous gift. Brown Thomas, arnotts and clery's all do lovely sets. Apparently it's an old tradition to get new sheets for your wedding!

Ugh - i hated so many of those wedding presents - sorry!
Crystals and fecking wine glasses - we got so many!!
Artwork is such a personal thing that a mirror might be a better option?
We got a huge big lamp with a black shade that we love - something like that?

We got a couple of unexpected gifts that we adored and still use every day (4.5yrs later). We got a Jamie Oliver Risotto pot that is brilliant for risottos and stews and pasta and ragus and its even big enough for pasta - literally everything. It actually doesnt have a space in the drawer as it never gets put away, we use it that often.
I got a set of 6 gorgeous Nicholas Mosse mugs that we also use every day.
We got a very good set of cutlery - solid heavy silvery stuff by Stellar
I dont think any of those things were over €100 and we love them every day!!

 me too! Then again we got 3 lamps and 3 sets of cutlery that we don't use either.
I think practical kitchen stuff is a fairly safe bet, saucepans , le creuset etc We also got those stainless steal mixing bowls which I thought were an odd choice at the time but they get plenty of use.

Thanks ladies.

Love the idea of maybe getting a picture of them both on their big day framed, but I really want to have something for them on the day - myself and my sister are going to pop down to the house and the church - have to see her on her big day.

I'm not a fan of crystal etc, and we have a lamp upstairs that we where given and it was never plugged in.

Thanks again, keep them coming :)

|I think Le Creuset is a great idea, or everyday wine glasses or cutlery, no crystal or mad patterns.

If they are together a while and possibly have their own home then maybe something like a voucher for a nice restaurant in town would be nice.

I'd love something that was practical but that I probably wouldn't splash out on myself, such as luxury bedlinen or a really good set of kitchen knives. Once I was short of money going to a wedding so I bought a tall white Newbridge earthenware vase for €40 - the kind of thing you'd shove into a corner with a few fake flowers to brighten it up. If it's from a nice shop and you include a gift receipt then they can always change it if it's not to their taste. Last year I was going to the afters of a wedding and I bought a Newbridge silverware carving set, that bride came to the afters of my sisters wedding the following week and when my sister was showing me her wedding presents I saw the same carving set, I asked her "Did J give you that?" I was just laughing it off but it actually hadn't been regifted from that bride.

Do you know where they met? Reason I ask is that Giles Norman is a photographer who has taken fantastic snaps throughout the city and around the country. They are in Black and white and have a black frame. We have bought a few as engagement gifts . You might be able to get one that has some connection with where they met/got engaged?

In fairness, we got 3 lamps. We only like one of them  Its very modern and classy, very like this one but with a large cylinder shaped base, not rounded.

We got a huge set of Le Crueset from my sisters and brother. 4 pots, 3 pans, a wok and a huge pasta pot and a steamer and a strainer etc. It was great cos we chucked all the mismatched crap we had until then and started off then with a whole new set of everything. We are very into cooking and doing dinner parties etc so it was perfick for us.

Someone gave us a framed pic of us for our wedding, dropped it over the next day and it was the WORST picture of me ever. I was walking up the aisle with Dad and I looked like I was about to vomit (in fairness, I was about to vomit). I hated hated hated it. We got our professional pictures and I got one enlarged and printed off and tried to put it in the frame and it didnt suit it at all. I eventually sold it at the wedding-present-car-boot-sale on our 2nd wedding anniversary. I made €25 on it and €372 the whole day. Huge result! (all the crystal and woeful china we got - ugh.

How about one of these, lots of verse to choose from or I can do one you already have:

http://www.erincrafts.com/products/wedding-wall-sign/

I also got WAY too many glasses and crystal and useless stuff like that, just gathering dust in the press. We registered at the time in roches and got a good few presents from there, we had everything from a salt/pepper set to saucepans. Got some other lovely gifts too a personalised photo album, which I loved and some nice (non wedding-eee) photo frames.

that's a nice idea. I was given one of his photos for my 30th from good friends of ours - it's of Blasket Island near Dingle and it holds memories of a few fantastic weekends away with a group of friends which I guess is the reason they chose it for me!

I like LeCreuset too - it's not the sort of thing you would splash out on for yourself but is so useful, ours is always on the go. The outlet in Kildare village do a good range at reduced cost - I got a casserole dish for my Mam, think it was a 26" - cost €100 there as opposed to €160 retail cost. Even though they are factory seconds, they are immaculate - I told them I was buying for a gift and wanted to make sure no chips etc and they took it out of the box to let me see it before I bought it.

Does anyone have any ideas what to get for a couple living abroad but coming home to get married. Id like to get them something rather than just give money or any websites that ship would be handy too.

Think these are a bit of a love/hate thing. We got one as a wedding present and we were baffled by it.
