Girls I'm so excited for you all mine is so far away Oct next year. We have only decided recently that a church wedding is not for us so we settled on a civil cermony and now we just have to start checking a few places. So far I have the Station house, the Hamlet, Johnstown house, Boynevalley hotel, Glenside Hotel and Tulfarris but I think that might be a bit expensive as we want to keep it as cheap as possible but I'd say the guest list will be around 100. Have any of you any other ideas of places for civil cermonies please we want to start visiting places next week.

Great to hear from you M&M... great to hear you had a fab day...cant wait to hear all the details...girls I want detailed wedding reports when yis are back off the honeymoons!!!

Anyways I decided to get the page boys converse after searching everywhere for something suitable for them. I had to buy 3 pairs so would cost a few bob. Anyways when I went into champion to get them I was only charged 15 for the two big boys one (should have been 32) so it only cost me 55 for the three pairs...was delighted.
I think I am nearly finished now with the buying...Just have to get figures now from the Wedding planner about how much I owe her (shitting it!!) then myself and Dp will be off to Belfast for round one on the 12th of June..I booked us a fancy room in Ten square! cant wait!!

I'm jumping in too ladies! I'm not getting married till next September but I am so excited !! We were supposed to be emigrating because dps job was very patchy, got accepted for our visas but last month dp got a great job about 20 minutes away,do we decided to use the money we were saving to emigrate for a wedding:) the church is booked, the reception is in the ashdown park in gorey. We'll have about 200 at it and I can't wait. I just bought my wedding dress tonight. a bit crazy but I know I won't find anything I love more and it was on sale so I threw caution to the wind. Got a great deal on it and a really long veil too.im going to be super organised, possibly bridezilla-ish  can't wait to pick everyone who's got married here's brains. Your photos are fab deer! And hope your day is going well m and m.

I'm delighted you'd a great day m&m.

Ali - great to get a bargain! They'll look great in their converse.

Meeting with priest - good and bad news. He's happy to waive the pre-marriage but as it turns out - it's not him that has a final say - it's the parish priest of my actual parish who doesn't know me at all. He told me to say that we're doing a pre-marriage course with him instead - and we can always meet him for a chat to have an informal one. Fingers crossed.
The main thing is the Church is free for my date!
So, booked for December 28th. I'll have to book the restaurant and function room now.
Although I'm looking at dresses online I've decided not to look properly until September - I'd say it'll be easier to find a winter dress then.

blonde momshelle you sound so excited!

I've just realised that posting pics from an iPad is a royal pain in the ass :)

Our day was amazing, made a million times better by the weather. It was probably the nicest day of the year so far. People got sun burnt. We had the ceremony outside and there wasnt a puff of wind.

The whole day was fab, the only downside was ds in dire form over being sick but he was hilarious during the ceremony. The priest was talking at once stage and ds was on my lap and shouts out "what's the man saying mommy". The place cracked up. Then he say the candles lighting and screamed "fire" :)

Everyone had a ball and loved all the small details we'd organised. The food was amazing. The band rocked. Even though there was only 40 of us we bogeyed all night :)

Going to bed now for a nap lol
Hope the pics work

Thanks for the comments girls. I really did have a great day and was happy as larry.
I'm still recovering! Absolutely wrecked.
Myself and the girls got hammered the night before the wedding on champagne... Ali, tip number 1 is not to wake up with a hangover lol In fairness tho it went away pretty quickly once all the prep started!

I just booked flights to Portugal for Tuesday till Saturday. Yay!

Ah m&m I'm delighted that you're having a honeymoon, the wedding day goes far too quickly so I think they're important to drag out the event a bit! Did you sleep well Tuesday night after the champagne? If so I think tip number 1 for Ali should be to get hammered because being sober and not being able to sleep wasn't great either. Did you love your dress when you put it on that day?

Still waiting for our photos, DH spoke to the photographer on Monday and he said he's been snowed under with work but they should be ready Wednesday/Thursday...still nothing. Originally he said they'd take a couple of weeks, it's been 4. I did a search on WOL and a thread came up from January with someone asking how long photos should take, he was one of the photographers to reply and said 4 weeks is reasonable for digital ones although many photographers are perfectionists and may over run, but the most important thing is they keep in touch with the couple to allay any fears. I might just copy and paste that into an email to him! Sorry, this has turned into a rant!

Well I am back from honeymoon and all I can say is Wow! If anyone is going for their honeymoon without the kids I can absolutely recommend the Hotel Canaves in Santorini. The reason I say no kids is they are not allowed and I don't feel the hotel is suitable anyway as it is built into a cliff and there are too many opportunities for accidents for kids. The room we had was amazing - it was very minimally decorated with white marble floors, dark brown wooden tables and chest of drawers, white bed covers and couch, a big balcony overlooking the most amazing view and had breakfast there a lot of the mornings. The pool was small but that's standard for where we were. There is another section of the hotel which you can also have breakfast but it is a walk of about five minutes. There are also a lot of steps and stairs and you don't go through a building to get into your room. Bathroom was huge with the jacuzzi bath and rainforest shower. We arrived and there was a bottle of bubbly waiting for us and were shown around the hotel - very personal service. While we were waiting for our room to be ready we were sent to the bar for drinks.

Food in Oia was amazing and the greeks are just the friendliest people I have ever met. They get very upset if you don't like the food so massive attention to detail. All we really did was drive around the island (do it in half a day!) drink wine, swim in the pool, eat out in amazing restaurants and went out on a catamaran which was a fantastic experience.

The wedding day also was great. Well apart from the usual family drama which I am not going to even go into. I arrived at the church, the priest was very friendly and a little bit mad which you always need in a priest to keep the troops entertained. We went to the beach for our photos and then arrived at the venue - barnabrow. I didn't do canapes but nibbles which are a little cheaper but went down well - breadsticks, almonds, mozerella bites, olives - that kind of thing. The menu was comprised of vol au vents and a gorgeous tomato tart to start, cauliflower soup or sweet potato and coconut soup, beef with yorkshire pudding in some fancy sauce and chicken stuffed with sage and bacon bites in a jus. I had roasties and garlic creamy potatoes to go with this and the usual veg and the desert was a chocolate cup with white chocolate mousse or lemon tart.

Didn't go to bed until about 4.00!! And it was still going!

Rainbow brite - barnabrow are changing their chef so it will be interesting to see if there are still good reports on the food. Hope all is okay with the Ambassador.

M&m are you back from Portugal?

Ali I am looking forward to your photos!!! Not long now is it?!

Cogee you just tell your local priest you received your instruction from the priest marrying you - that is what I said and he was fine. I'd actually say maybe look for dresses now just in case - it's not long flying! If you are in Cork I can recommend two great places.

Blonde momshell congrats! You sound so excited!!

I know I was to get back to someone on a bridesmaids question - I'll look back and see what it was and respond later!

Thanks to all comments on my wedding photos xx

Hi Deer welcome home, your honeymoon sounds like bliss. Congratulations! I'm glad the wedding went off well and that the Barnabrow was nice. That was my second choice, only I didn't like the woman's attitude is all when we went there.

We're still struggling with our venue, and today the news broke that the hotel is going into receivership so as you can imagine I was slightly freaked by that. Cue a phone call not 5 minutes after the news broke to ask to meet us to discuss that and my email of complaint which I sent 6 days ago and they only acknowledged in our telephone conversation today. I am not impressed.

On the upside my brother has treated me to a photographer who was booked on Friday. Very exciting! I just hope we have a venue!!!

Fingers crossed it works out for you. Sorry your having trouble with it. I don't know anyone who married there so I don't have any feedback.

That's so nice of your brother :-)

I know it is he's a dote (pain in the ass) but a dote all the same!

Yeah I don't know what to do, I work in a solicitors so gonna see if I can have a chat with one of the lads and see if there's anything we can do about walking away with our deposit but I won't hold my breath. I suppose I'll just see what they have to say. My email was pleasant but got the point across so I hope they understand it from our point of view rather than just seeing us as annoying complainers. It really was a struggle for me to complain as I do not complain ever - I don't even return something to Penney's if it's ripped or too small like!!!

Well you know a wedding is one thing you need to complain about - look at the amount of money you'll be spending.

You never know about the deposit. Did you pay by credit card and see if the c/c company would reverse the charge on the basis that the hotel wouldn't deliver. That is if you want to find another hotel. Ask your collegues - working with solicitors has it's uses!!

any update RB?

Welcome back Deer. Sounds like you had a fabulous time!!!

We're also back to reality here. Went back to work on Monday and put down the worst week this week trying to catch up. Almost feels like the wedding and honeymoon never happened!!

We had a ball in Portugal. I'm so grateful that we got to go away. The day before we left for Portugal the buzz was starting to die a bit and it was just like going back to normal life. The few days away really helped extend the celebrations!

How are you doing Ali? Countdown on?
