Interesting... So, boys are MORE stressful on your body than girls

We've all heard the expression 'boys are easier than girls' but it seems whoever came up with it failed to mention just how much STRESS boys actually put your body under during pregnancy.

Following 56 healthy, pregnant women at San Cecilio Hospital in Granda, Spain, experts found that the bodies of women who gave birth to girls showed fewer signs of stress than those who welcomed boys.

Of those who participated, 27 gave birth to boys and 29 to girls; blood samples were taken from the umbilical cord and the baby and then analysed it for oxidative stress, according to the MailOnline

But why is this?

Well, according to the experts, babies create chemicals that trigger inflammations in the mother’s body – which in turn harms her cells – and, basically, boys make more of these than girls.

While co-author of the study Javier Diaz-Castro said that the pain during labour is no different, the free radicals produced by boys cause the body to respond as if it was infected.

In the long-term – while they haven’t followed the women over their whole life – experts believe that the mother’s immune system will be ultimately affected, and women who give birth to boys may have worse health as a result.

In fact, oxidative stress is believed to be linked to heart disease, Alzheimer’s and depression.

“Our findings open a new, exciting field of research centred on the neonate’s [newborn’s] sex as a risk factor for several functional alterations, with a great impact on the development of pathologies in the future,” authors of the study said.
