'Ask for help...' 12 things to say to your son before he grows up

Staring at your toddler covered in chocolate, singing along to Peppa Pig, it's probably hard to imagine them as fully grown men.

But no matter how much you may want to keep them at this sweet, innocent age, they will eventually become adults, and it's important you help prepare them for adulthood.

So, before he even hits the dreaded teenage years, make sure you tell him the following 12 things.

1. "Work hard and the world is your oyster"

2. "You can do anything you set your mind to"

3. "Ask for help when you need it"

4. "It is OK to admit defeat"

5. "Hold on to your friends – you'll them even more as you get older"

6. "Always be yourself – and never let anyone try to change you"

7. "It's OK if sport is NOT your thing"

8. "You are not going to be a little heartbreaker – no matter what people may say"

9. "Admit when you are wrong, and accept the consequences"

10. "Money is not everything, so don't get too caught up in the idea that it is"

11. "Follow your heart – even if you have to put a few people out along the way"
