Feeling fancy? Why MUSSELS make a great mid-week meal

Mussels: not exactly a mid-week meal for most families around Ireland.

Actually, shellfish in general is not something that features on our meal planning lists, to be honest.

The kids would turn their noses up at it, and sure mussels are only for fancy occasions and posh restaurants, right?

Eh, wrong,

Not only are mussels quick and easy to prepare, they are also great value for money and incredibly tasty.

They are also a great source of protein, low in fat and are packed with several vitamins and minerals.

But the majority of us would never, ever consider eating them.

Why?

Well, most people are pretty nervous about preparing and cooking shellfish at home – something Bord Bia wants to change with their #FlexYourMussels campaign (see what they did there…?).

The aim of this campaign – which runs until February 28 – is to instil confidence in Irish consumers and inspire more to consider mussels as an everyday meal.

As part of their campaign, Bord Bia have developed a suite of tasty, quick and easy-to-prepare mussels recipes including the classic Moules Marinières, Chili and Garlic Flavoured Mussels and Mussels with Pak Choi and Bean Sprouts, all of which can be on the table in under 30 minutes.
