Boy asks powerful questions when he learns about his new heart

Five-year-old Ari Schultz was diagnosed with critical aortic stenosis before he was born, and had to undergo medical intervention at 20 weeks of gestation.

Throughout his short life, Ari has had to undergo even more treatments, and has been living at Boston Children's Hospital while he waited for a heart transplant; 211 days in fact.

But on March 3rd, doctors told Ari's mum and dad, Mike and Erica, that a new heart had been found, and the youngster's reaction to the news is wonderful.

Fighting back tears, he asks 'when I can go home?', 'where they will put the heart?' and 'will I need an IVF?' – pretty powerful questions from such a young boy.

And as he asks the types of questions no child should ever have to, he leans in to his mum for comfort – highlighting his young age.

Seeing that his son is overwhelmed, his dad asks if he wants to go play baseball, something the youngster jumps up at.

Ari underwent the heart transplant on March 8th, but will take up to three months to recover.

And while he has a lifetime of medication to take, Mike says the family are grateful for new hope.
